The weekend kicks off with the Trans Pride parade on Capitol Hill. The Trans Pride march will begin on Nagle Place and snake along East John Street, and Olive Way before ending at Cal Anderson Park.
Downtown Seattle will also likely be a traffic clusterfuck as President Barack Obama arrives in town — unfortunately not for Pride festivities. He will be attending two private fundraising events: one for Gov. Jay Inslee’s reelection campaign and another for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Until Obama heads out on June 25, the Seattle Department of Transportation warns that there will be traffic delays around the city and slowdowns for Obama’s motorcade. According to SPD Blotter, the downtown bus tunnel should continue operating.
Per the United States Secret Service, vehicle access to the area bounded by Olive St., 7th Avenue, Lenora St and 4th Avenue will be limited to 5th Avenue between Lenora and Virginia and on Stewart between 6th and 7th Avenue.
Capitol Hill Pride Festival opens on Saturday. Celebrations will be held “in the new E Denny Festival Street between Broadway E and 10th Ave E and on the grounds of the new Capitol Hill Link station from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. About 5,000 people are expected to attend,” SDOT reports.
The weekend will end with the 42nd annual Seattle Pride Parade in downtown and PrideFest in Seattle Center. Heads up from SPD: “On Sunday, 4th Avenue will close from Union Street to Denny Way between 7 AM and 4 PM for the Pride Parade. A portion of 2nd Avenue will also close as part of the parade’s route into Seattle Center.”
