This week, mochi doughnuts make their debut at Uwajimaya, Ballard gets a new Thai restaurant, and Interbay’s new Champagne Diner mixes fancy and casual with sparkling wines and a new take on diner fare, from the owner behind Damn the Weather. You’ll find all that below, plus updates on the latest happenings in the food world, from Cherry Bombe’s Jubilee conference to Brandi Carlile’s new wine club, and events for this weekend, like Shirlee’s Blackberry Pie Pop-Up. OPENINGS
Champagne Diner
On Monday, August 19, Damn the Weather owner Bryn Lumsden will open his newest project Champagne Diner, named playfully in tribute to the Champagne Video VHS Rental Store frequented by the characters of Seinfeld. Located in the former space of Citizen Six (which recently relocated to Queen Anne under the name “Lazy Susan“) and complete with diner-inspired booths, the restaurant/bar will feature an irreverent juxtaposition of highbrow and lowbrow, with natural wine, craft cocktails, and upgraded versions of greasy-spoon mainstays like meatloaf, fish and chips, and BLTs (their version has pork belly). And yes, there will be champagne.
