DIVERSIONS

THURSDAY 7/20

NW HARVEST–Are your cupboards filled with cans of evaporated milk and boxes of Jell-O? Then now is the time for some serious summer cleaning. Take all of that non-perishable food to CD Exchange in Burien and get a free music poster when you donate. Not only do you help out Northwest Harvest during one of their most desperate times, but after your good deed you’ll have something to decorate your freshly cleaned apartment. CD Exchange, 457 SW 148th St, Suite 104, Burien, 444-0933 for more info.

FRIDAY 7/21

BITE OF SEATTLE–Good food, good music, and with any luck, great weather. I recommend visiting one of the Thai booths before scurrying over to catch Bugs in Amber play KNDD’s music stage. Mmmm… Phad Thai. Seattle Center, Fri-Sat 11 am-9 pm, Sun 11 am-8 pm. Free. Visit biteofseattle.com for a complete schedule.

SUNDAY 7/23

PICNIC FOR PUGET SOUND–I hate clams. They smell funny, they taste funny, and why would anyone want to eat something that resembles a big gray booger? Thank goodness that’s not all that will be available at the Beach Blanket Benefit for “Kids for Puget Sound.” Grab your beach blankets and head on over to Golden Gardens Park to chow down on corn on the cob, hot dogs, gelato, watermelon, and, of course, vile clams. Better bring lots of tartar sauce. Golden Gardens Park, 1-5 pm. $10, kids under 12 are free. Call 382-7007 to reserve your tickets.

MONDAY 7/24

JR. GRAND SEAFAIR PARADE–I choose you… to see even more of our favorite overexposed little yellow lump, Pikachu, during the 51st Annual U-District Jr. Grand Seafair Parade! The cartoon character–who eerily resembles my Pembroke corgi, Lucy–will be the Grand Marshal, and joining him will be four-year-old cutie-pie Lexy Lyons as the Parade Princess. KING TV’s John Curley will be emceeing the event. The parade starts at 7 pm beginning at 50th and travels down the Ave. All children are invited to take part in the festive march by showing up no later than 6 pm on the corner of 52nd and University Way NE. Of course, prizes and treats will be awarded to those who participate.
