Green star Highline (Capitol Hill)

210 Broadway E
Seattle, WA 98102
(206) 328-7837
Website

In place of the defunct and super-cheesy Club Lagoon on Broadway, the world welcomes entirely cheese-free bar/vegan eatery Highline. It's brought to you by the owners of Georgetown's late Squid & Ink, and it's a meat-free, punk-rock drinkin' paradise. Highline's menu is packed with seitan, tempeh, and soy creations designed to replicate the greatest hits of pub grub, but the emphasis is on the bar here. The unspoken moral code of the core constituency of heavily tattooed-and-pierced vegan boozers and nicotine fiends: Do whatever the fuck you want to yourself, just leave animals out of it. This is a beautiful thing. So is the space, a humongous wide-open room with seating for dozens, a photo booth, a free foosball table, and Broadway's best balcony. Also: live music.

Green star Cake-arokee!

Tues at 10 pm–2 am.

206-328-7837
Highline, Seattle's finest divey vegan bar, doesn't normally serve dessert. But on Tuesday nights, they bring out the (vegan) cake (and Cake-arokee is rumored to be the most supportive karaoke night in the city). Get there early: The cake usually sells out.

Food is amazing.

Get the Howie sandwich. I have tricked meat-eaters into believing the food wasn't vegan. It is so effing delicious, everyone I bring there craves the food constantly. While I'm still eatting, I want to order another sandwich to have for lunch the next day (But I know I'd just eat it an hour later if I did that). And they carry Diamond Knot IPA. Effing dope. GO THERE.

Also, the photo booth, board games and table games are a definite bonus.

meh

Food is ok, service slow, prices a bit high for the haphazard setting.
Decent option if you MUST have vegan food, otherwise look elsewhere.

Good Food, Snobby Service

I went to Highline with a friend for dinner and the few guys who were working gave terrible customer service. Two of the workers totally ignored us when we were trying to order - one saw his friends and instead started chatting with them while we stood there waiting. When we did have their attention, all were unfriendly and abrupt. It also took at least half an hour to get our food even though the place was empty.

Question?

Does anyone know if it is all ages, or 21+ like Bimbo's Cantina?

LOVE :)

I loved the Squid & Ink, but I hated trekking out to Georgetown to visit...so hooray for the Highline opening on Capitol Hill!

The new space is awesome! Outside seating, lots of windows up front, attractive bar, shuffleboard, pinball, air hockey, foozball, and a stage where they will be booking shows this summer.

They are open for lunch on weekdays...which rules. The drinks were cheap and well made, and the bartender was super nice....which also rules. I had the Howie (if you think vegan food is just rabbit food, the Howie will convince you otherwise) and baked beans and it was just as tasty as I remember it at Squid & Ink.

Highline = awesome.

whoop!

They haven't even had their official grand opening yet (as of the writing of this review), and already this is an exciting and solid place. The food, the drinks, the company are all excellent. The atmosphere is friendly, unpretentious, and casual. Their menu is similar to The Squid & Ink, though slimmed down and improved. Weekend brunches are especially delicious. The only downside is the sad reminders of its history as Club Lagoon - the the rock walls & remnants of its water-wasting water-falls, and the now painted over two-way mirror.
I very heartily recommend this place. Be nice to the staff, and understanding if it's still a little rough around the edges; they've been working overtime to get this up & running, and so far so good.

fuck yea

All kinds of delicious. Cheap whisky, good music, and habanero sauce. If your a vegan or an alcoholic, this is your place. Love it.
