The Seattle Police Officers’ Guild (SPOG) is gone—disappeared from both Twitter and Facebook. Beyond deleting inflammatory, offensive posts after they’ve already gone up and outraged hundreds of people, the union has now deleted its accounts. The guild’s website is also down.

“I think sometimes the police union leadership are their own worst enemies,” said City Council Member Tim Burgess last week. “They fire off these statements and then take them down. It’s terrible, because it reflects an inner cycle of thinking that is very negative and disrespectful.”

SPOG members—the city’s rank and file police officers—are voting this week on whether to ratify the city’s latest contract offer.
