You know how candidate forums are dull as hell and nobody wants to go to them? Don’t we all. Sure, they’re supposedly virtuous functions—but the suited replicants drone on and on with their rehearsed talking points and you cannot get them to shut up. And there’s no booze. But that changes on the last Tuesday of July at the Showbox, when The Stranger teams up with Washington Bus and the Recording Academy to bring you Candidate Survivor:

All 15,000 candidates running for city council will be on stage, and you, the no-admission-paying audience member, decide when you’ve heard enough by texting them off the island.

Got tough or unusual questions for the candidates—like truth or dare for people who get nervous about speaking off script? Put them in comments, and Washington Bus spokes-stud Toby Crittenden will ask the best ones. Such as what is Jessie Israel’s biggest phobia, David Miller’s weirdest fetish, or Richard Conlin’s zaniest idea for a party on the viaduct before tearing the monster down? Also, when will Dorsol Plants take off his shirt (and shave off that damn goatee)?

Required items: Your phone (for texting), your ID (if you want to be drinking), and your notepad (for recording their admissions for future bribing).

  1. My main question: will there be arm wrestling? I love the arm wrestling. Actually, how about whether they support a condo conversion cap? Too many friends got rolled out of their homes just as the bubble burst, maybe we can avoid that next time..

  2. @2

I know I haven’t been able to get to the gym as much since the Campaign started, but I don’t think I’m that out of shape! 🙂

  3. In anxious anticipation of this political battle royal I’m expecting there to be a smack-down of such epic proportion that Bono will be hosting a humanitarian effort to mercy the inadequates. I’m expecting this event to metaphorically flying double-piston kick any candidate avoiding questions, and Falcon Punch any hesitation out of their mouths. This should be brutal, and I’m stoked.

  4. I’m rooting for Jordan Royer, because he was really nice when I saw him at the grocery store last week. Does anyone have any more information about him?
