Alexa Vaughn at the Seattle Times reports:

An elderly Puyallup father who police say shot his adult children early Sunday, killing one of them, is in custody. Puyallup Deputy Police Chief Dave McDonald said the man’s 43-year-old daughter was pronounced dead at Tacoma General Hospital. His 46-year-old son was in critical condition. …

Detectives say it appears the son and daughter were asleep when they were shot.

The wounded man’s two children, ages 6 and 7, and the suspect’s wife were asleep during the shooting and were unharmed, according to police.

If only the sleeping people were armed, they could have shot their father, avoiding this domestic tragedy.
