Alexa Vaughn at the Seattle Times reports:

An elderly Puyallup father who police say shot his adult children early Sunday, killing one of them, is in custody. Puyallup Deputy Police Chief Dave McDonald said the manโ€™s 43-year-old daughter was pronounced dead at Tacoma General Hospital. His 46-year-old son was in critical condition. …

Detectives say it appears the son and daughter were asleep when they were shot.

The wounded manโ€™s two children, ages 6 and 7, and the suspectโ€™s wife were asleep during the shooting and were unharmed, according to police.

If only the sleeping people were armed, they could have shot their father, avoiding this domestic tragedy.
