Seattle woman might lose her home over $2: A 23-year-old woman failed to pay $2 of her rent last month. She’s facing eviction. She and her three children may be homeless again. She may also lose her Section 8 housing, which pays for a good chunk of her rent, according to the Seattle Times. It’s ridiculous that a landlord would spend the time and moneyโsometimes more than $1,000โto chase $2. That’s cruel.
Regarding that BuzzFeed article: BuzzFeed released an article today saying that Donald Trump made his lawyer, Michael Cohen, lie to Congress. BuzzFeed had cited unnamed law enforcement officials who asserted Mueller obtained emails, text messages and more from the Trump Organization to support the claims. A representative from the Mueller investigation has said otherwise:

Parsing the words in the Mueller team statement, it isnโt explicitly saying the IMPACT of the story is wrong.
It says the โcharacterizationโ of evidence related to Michael Cohenโs โtestimonyโ is not accurate.
It does NOT say the team lacks evidence Trump suborned perjury.

Oh no, Golden Boy of the New Yorker Ronan Farrow weighs in:
I canโt speak to Buzzfeedโs sourcing, but, for what itโs worth, I declined to run with parts of the narrative they conveyed based on a source central to the story repeatedly disputing the idea that Trump directly issued orders of that kind.

Another update:
Statement from Buzzfeed News spokeswoman:
โWe are continuing to report and determine what the special counsel is disputing. We remain confident in the accuracy of our report.โ

Starbucks Daddy considering presidential run: Sorry, that’s a gross way to refer to Howard Schultz, but is it technically inaccurate? The former Starbucks CEO is letting the thought of being president marinate. Do we really need a high-profile billionaire Democrat to stir the pot? I’ll answer that: No. Also, Schultz says he might not even run as a Democrat, but as an Independent.

Our National Parks are dying because of the shutdown: Every idiot who decided to take a joy ride in a protected desert or chop down a Joshua Tree, this is all your fault. National Parks are fragile environments. Parts of them are cordoned off for a reason. When the shutdown started and the Park Rangers left, people went crazy. That disrupted and killed a lot, including a biological soil crust. It’s crucial for the ecosystem and could take anywhere from a decade or a century to grow back.

Federal workers met in Seattle today to demand an end to the shutdown: At a press conference in Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s office on Friday morning, a group of federal employees who haven’t received a paycheck since late December gathered to tell their stories and to demand that Trump and Sen. Mitch McConnell end the shutdown immediately, writes Rich Smith.

Redmond police are on one this week: They yelled at a jaywalker to stop and then arrested him for obstructing justice. His friends, who witnessed the event, allege that he was held in a prison facility with actual criminals for 24 hours on the night before his birthday. They said he had birthday money with him that the police took, accusing him of drug dealing.

Happy Paul G. Allen Day: How are you celebrating? Friday, Jan. 18 (today, if you’re reading this when I’m writing this) is officially the Microsoft co-founder’s day. Mayor Jenny Durkan proclaimed it Friday morning. She called Paul a “true son of Seattle.” He passed away in October at age 65.
Trump is meeting with North Korea again: Remember last year when he told us North Korea denuclearization was basically all systems go? Yeah. That didn’t happen. So, Trump is going back to meet with Kim Jong-un in February to really seal the denuclearization deal this time around. The potential sites of the meeting are Vietnam, Thailand, or Hawaii.
R. Kelly is out: The rapper, in the wake of the documentary series against him, has been dropped by his label, RCA Records.
And a big fuck you to our friend Todd Herman: This guy hates bus lanes and I hate him. He also has a fuck ton (technical term) of tickets.
