Oh, Mary!
Through Nov 8
If you don’t know about the cultural phenomenon that is Oh, Mary!, then allow me to try and explain: Playwright Cole Escola’s Broadway smash follows the life of Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of her closeted gay husband, Abraham Lincoln. As the official press materials put it, the one-act play “examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola).” Since the play’s opening night in 2024 (which originally starred Escola), the titular heroine has been played by Jinkx Monsoon, John Cameron Mitchell, Maya Rudolph, Megan Stalter, and Bowen Yang, among others. For the Seattle dates, drag royalty Alaska Thunderfuck will embody Mary Todd Lincoln alongside John-Andrew Morrison as “Mary’s Husband,” Wesley Taylor as “Mary’s Teacher,” Pooya Mohseni as “Mary’s Chaperone,” and Michael Lepore as “Mary’s Husband’s Assistant.” (Paramount Theatre, times vary) AUDREY VANN

Sensorium
Through Dec 14
This gallery and performance space has been running since October, with much more in store. At downtown’s Base Camp Studios 2, you can walk into an immersive home curated by Esther Loopstra and Alaina Stocker. With each unique room built by a team of visual artists, you’ll experience a dripping-wax dining room, bean-filled bathtub, and many more intriguing abstractions. The space is activated by a variety of shows, including performance curator Alana O. Rogers’s Fractured November 6 and 7, Glory Hole Collective November 14, High F@ggotry’s HOTLINE November 21, TUSH (the Genius Award-winning drag collective I happen to be a part of) November 28, and CO-’s CO-NDUIT series extending into December 5–6 and 12–13. It’s a cornucopia of talent from visual, dance, drag, burlesque, and performance art backgrounds! (Base Camp Studios 2, times vary) NICO SWENSON

Emily Catalano
Nov 21
Welp, the algo discovered my jones for unconventional comics and began feeding me clips of Emily Catalano delivering beguilingly funny jokes with the chillest, driest deadpan since Steven Wright; my life’s improved ever since. Her punch lines sneak up on you in stocking feet, stare at you with a blank expression, and precisely subvert your expectations. Catalano’s approach is the epitome of understatement, as is her quintessential tomboy appearance. The 2024 album Hey. and this year’s special, Introvert, yield many memorable bits, including dealing with unexpected menses at a baseball game, a killer Fantasy Football joke, how boobs are like air fryers, and the similarities between lesbians and ICE (the former may groan at this one, but it slaps). (Neptune Theatre, 6:30 and 9 pm, recommended 18+) DAVE SEGAL
