Tonight: The World Affairs Council presents a discussion with Humaira Awais Shahid, editor of Pakistan’s English daily newspaper and member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly. Shahid certainly has the chops to lead an engaging talk—she became famous for passing resolutions that opposed arranged marriages and disfiguring women with acid.

Her talk “Empowering Women in Pakistan and the Muslim World” is an opportunity to network with a powerful voice for women’s rights in an area where things are pretty damn awful. (University of Washington, Women’s Center, Cunningham Hall, 4101 George Washington Lane, 6 p.m., $15)
