Spent the weekend in a friend’s family’s cabin on Guemes Island off of Anacortes, where there are lots of dogs (I’m told that “dog island” is a nickname for the place). While the fireworks were going off, we were in a sauna in the middle of the woods, reading aloud the sex scenes from Heretics of Dune—ejaculation felt as a “hard slap!” something about a chain of red sausages!—and listening to the explosions.
Speaking of sausages, the food consumed over the weekend: lamb sausage, roast pork shoulder, salmon, various roasted vegetables (Brussels sprouts, beets, asparagus, potatoes, carrots, etc), crackers with cheese and strawberries, grapes, eggs and bacon, chips and salsa and guacamole, beer, box wine, the Spice.

um. wow.
Who is your Spice source?? Last shipment from my source turned out to be Amal!!! Needless to say, the poor bastard wasn’t connected to his skin for much longer afterwards.
If only A. Birch Steen could comment on this SLOG post. Ms. Grandy indeed!
@3 He’s my fave. I always read his columns.
The nick-name ‘Dog Island’ comes from a time when the Samish Indians raised a fair amount of dogs in order to weave their hair for blankets and other items when goat herds were thinned out.
Even after friendly whites accidentally killed all their new pals off by introducing foreign disease and dog raising became obsolete, the name still stuck.
man… I wish Jenn still talked to me.
Man…I wish Lee still called me…
Just kidding. I never answer my phone anyway. Let’s BBQ soon and I’ll talk your face off. Maybe I’ll even read you some weird unsexy sci-fi.
