Speaking of joyful rallies, that big announcement Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert have been teasing about for a week or so? The one that already happened in most other time zones?

It’s after the jump.

The Rally to Restore Sanity and The March to Keep Fear Alive will both be held in D.C. on October 30, presumably very nearby one another. Specific details? Who knows. Like I said, it hasn’t aired here yet. But the idea alone is enough to restore your faith in humanity just a little.

From the Stewart site:

If we had to sum up the political view of our participants in a single sentence… we couldn’t. That’s sort of the point.

And Colbert:

They want to replace our Fear with reason. But never forget โ€” “Reason” is just one letter away from “Treason.” Coincidence? Reasonable people would say it is, but America can’t afford to take that chance.

  1. They shouldn’t have done it so close to Halloween…their target demographic is too busy dressing up like tea partiers to go rally against tea partiers.

  2. They really didn’t give much time for people to make plans/etc. Like Jon said – “reasonable people have shit to do” and they only have like 5 weeks to try to make plans if they want to attend.

  3. Damn! If I still lived in Pittsburgh I would SO drive to this! Sad that I’ll miss it. God I hope it draws more people than that stupid Beck rally.

  4. Cool! Since I’m ditching homecoming weekend in Flagstaff this year due to SB 1070 and other lovely AZ hate-filled legislative actions, perhaps I’ll do this instead….

  5. I think we should join.

But DC is pretty far for those of us in Washington State, so can’t we just go to Capitol Hill in Seattle or maybe compromise and drive up to BC and watch the leaves turn?

  6. @17 That sounds fun, but I think it’d have to be more than an “I’m aware of Comedy Central” thing…

Perhaps a TEE-HEE Party Rally, where we see how well Poe’s Law applies to the TEA Party? Maybe a Tax Rally, celebrating all parks, roads, and all the other goods and services we enjoy?

  7. i’m VERY inteersted in rallying here in seattle.. i like that thing we do where we gather at a park..( volunteer or cal andersen?…and then march in the street t(o westlake or seattle center ) and stuff.

  8. If I could drive from Cincinnati to DC for the Obama inaugural in the middle of a snowstorm, I can surely repeat the route for this momentous event.

  9. I wish I had the extra cash for a quick trip to DC for the rally and Halloween!

Otherwise I will settle for The Stranger sending me to cover the event* (*no expense spared), or a Satellite Rally to Restore Sanity here in Seattle.
