Seriously:
You can tell that the dog in this film—his name is Francis—is an extremely patient teacher and cook, because making this bento box requires approximately 1,423,229 steps. The best step of all: explaining how to make an octopus-shaped sausage with eyes.
Francis’s YouTube channel called cookingwithdog—featuring him speaking English and a human speaking Japanese and not featuring any dogs being cooked—contains approximately 1,423,229 more videos. All of them very specific. All narrated by Francis.

I love Cooking With Dog! I haven’t yet made anything shown in the videos, but I watch every one of them anyway.
It would take me 10 days to make that and 10 seconds to eat it.

Nice recipe. I can’t, however, escape the revulsion that comes with considering how much dog hair you get to eat along with your bento.
This is great! I really liked the piece — thanks for sharing it. I’ll go look at the other items in the series.
Also, I want Asian food tonight.
I was window-shopping bento items the other night and telling my boyfriend how I wished I had a cute, patient Japanese girlfriend to make adorable lunches for me.
He eyed me beadily.
Bento is a crazy artform that I appreciate but would simply never have the patience for. Why spend an hour making that when you could spend 5 minutes throwing together a turkey sandwich, slice some veggies into a bag and throw in an apple.
Wala! And I didn’t dirty 14 different dishes.
I love Francis. I’ve made a few things from Cooking With Dog, and I appreciate the thoroughness.
@6, gimletty or shinily? The difference could be important.
Can you say cross-contamination? Handling raw chicken and arranging veggie salad with mayo at the same time? Not so good. I try not to kill myself when I cook.
The last few seconds of the vid show the bento box being wrapped in a scarf or cloth napkin. The Japanese can wrap items of almost any shape using furoshiki. A couple of links:

Wow! And I used to be impressed when my mother squirted a mustard smiley face on the bologna before topping it with a bright orange slice of Kraft American cheese, then slapping both between two slices of Wonder bread (crust removed), and placing the sandwich next to a Twinkie and a can of Pepsi in my lunchbox without any ash from the cigarette hanging from the corner of her mouth falling into my lunch.
And this is why Japanese housewives have to get up at 3am!
That just looks unhealthy
