It’s a cocktail advent calendar! Rob Roy (and generally awesome) bartender Andrew Bohrer explains: “The Cocktail Advent Calendar at the Rob Roy is a gift to you, the guest. It will enable you to enjoy the holiday drinks classics that have become taboo for so many reasons: because they are never made well, because you are embarrassed to order them, and because it is morally wrong to order a Spanish coffee. Rob Roy’s bartenders will make a new, likely sweet, libation for each day in December up until Xmas eve. Xmas eve will be Blue Blazer acrobatics.” Find each day’s new holiday cocktail and its recipe on Bohrer’s blog.

If you purchase 12 of said advent cocktails, the Rob Roy will award you with a $50 gift certificate. Make it down for all 24 and receive a $100 gift certificate (and possibly a cavity, but it will be well worth it). Tonight’s drink: The Walnut Old Fashioned.

  1. True story, when I was ten or so, my parents took me to a fancy restaurant in New York called August (I was a the quiet kind of kid you could take to fancy places without worrying about causing a scene). When was asked what I wanted to drink, I ordered a Roy Roger’s. A few minutes later, the waiter returned with my drink and I promptly gulped down half the beverage, only to start gasping and have my face turn bright red. One of my parents sipped the drink and confirmed that it was very alcoholic. Apparently the waiter had brought me a Rob Roy instead of a Roy Roger’s. I spent the rest of the night in a stupor.

Excuse the anecdote, I saw the words “Rob Roy” and couldn’t help myself. Carry on with whatever is actually going on here.

  2. @2, and your parents didn’t sue? My, how times have changed.

I love this idea, but there’s no way I’m going to remember to return on a regular basis to work through the remaining cocktails.

  3. I just figured out why I’m gay—nobody ever told me that young males should order Roy Rogers instead of Shirley Temples.

Maybe I can still sue my surviving parent.
