You guys are totally screwed:
Laying the groundwork for an evening speech to the nation, President Barack Obama walked a pristine stretch of sand on Florida’s shoreline Tuesday and promised to be a “fierce advocate” for those whose lives have been upended by the spreading oil lurking offshore.
Gulfers may recall that the last time Obama pledged to be a fierce advocate for the gays he followed up severeral months later by comparing marriage equality to incest. Good luck down there, guys.

Not this myth again.
Have we rebuilt New Orleans yet? Oh, right. We’re rebuilding Iraq and looking for rocks in Afghanistan. Hmmm, we should get to the Gulf right around, I don’t know, the Second Coming. How’s that date work for you guys? Good? Good. Kinda got our hands full overseas. We’ll leave our own stuff to Jesus when he comes.
they were screwed if Jesus Fucking Christ himself was president. i’m truly fed up with Obama Disappointment Syndrome.
Hillary was right: That’s change you can photocopy!!
Too harsh.
Stop hijacking issue to push the end of DADT through. I understand this is Dan and the Strangers favorite issue because it hits close to home but you have to realize there is a lot of shit going on. I know I know, there is never a GOOD time to deal with equality but for the majority of Americans social equality comes after the economy and the environment.
You can make the case that nobody cares about social equality because most people already have it but the point is you being impatient. I understand why you are impatient but please give the president until the end of his promised year before you get so cynical. At that time we can all get together and point out how he broke him promise and so on.
Saying “he . . . compar[ed] marriage equality to incest” is not accurate. Apart from the fact that Obama did not utter those words, the passage in the brief that generated this controversy appears as an argument regarding the Full Faith and Credit clause and conflicts between state laws.
Some have been all too anxious to recast this argument as “Obama said that gay marriage is as immoral and reprehensible as incest.” That simply is not what this passage of the brief argues. It says “Hey, look at all these other times State A did not have to recognize a marriage performed in State B. See, states do not always have to recognize the laws of other states!”
I understand that the brief offended a great number of people, and I’m not saying that it is not offensive or defending the substance of the brief. My quibble is with the inaccurate characterization of what this passage actually says.
Ability and willingness to keep one promise are good indicators of future behavior.
@7 No, you’re wrong. That section of the DOMA brief did deal with the full faith and credit clause, but in the context of establishing the legitimate state interests that would allow one state to ignore another’s marriages the inclusion of an incest citation was offensive, legally damaging, and discriminatory. Legal experts agree, Obama hurt the LGBT community by giving that particular GOP talking point another day in court.
lamest slog post ever?
Nobody’s going to give you rights.
You’re going to have to take them.
Incest? Are you sure?
