From the Seattle Times, this morning:

From the Seattle Times, this afternoon:

Adams has adamantly denied having sex with a former city intern, Beau Breedlove before Breedlove turned 18. This is a huge factor in the storyโsecond only to the fact that Adams lied to the public about the relationship. The Seattle Times apparently saw no need for a correction.

Are you sure it was the Times and not those automatic AP feeds?
No need for correction? That sucks.
it’s still up too…
The tricky bit, of course, is whether he’s telling the truth about that. After lying for months about the relationship, you think he’s going to just shout out, “I fucked a minor, come and get me, cops!” No.
Let’s assume for the sake of argument that the relationship started when Breedlove was 17. Adams can lie about that and maybe get away with it, or he can tell the truth and go to prison, plus getting to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Whisper campaigns ROCK.
@4: Why would Breedlove conceal the fact for so long?
@6: … maybe he doesn’t want the guy he had a relationship with to go to prison?
that is a lame misprint. not cool.
Blame AP.
This is why you shouldn’t outsource local and regional news feeds to reporters based in India.
One small point: Breedlove was a legislative intern in Salem, OR not a city intern.
@7: It never takes long for people that age to squawk. Monica Lewinsky buckled in a matter of days by any accounts when the story came out. This story has been out for weeks and weeks.
I’m skeptical myself, but I’m not about to force an issue in one direction for the sake of trumping up another. He lied, that’s the sin, and it’s pretty dang rude. Acting on an unsubstantiated notion that Breedlove was 17 is tying to issues into one, with no accounting for the truth of the other.
As a political figure seeking a higher public office, he lied to keep a personal situation from overshadowing his capacity and capability as a politician. If it bears out that Breedlove was indeed 18, the I see no reason he should resign as Portland is run in such a way that confidence is overruled by capability.
Ultimately, too, it should remind us all that we should keep a very VERY close eye on our elected officials. If you aren’t watching them, you aren’t honoring your own vote.
The Oregonian (where Adams’ boyfriend works), the Portland Tribute, and even Just Out (where Adams used to work) are calling for his resignation. Portland’s two alternative newsweeklies, Willamette Week and the Portland Mercury, are digging up any dirt they can about him.
WTF is wrong with Portland? I haven’t been there in a while, but are they really such puritans down there? The republicans were barely this harsh with Clinton, who lied under oath, cheated on his wife, had sex with someone who was actually his subordinate, etc.
@13: A sense of betrayal. For the left, it’s exposing the GLBT community to greater scrutiny than it’s used to (usually limited to “the WHATs on bikes?”) and for the right, it’s vindication for him easily trouncing what should have been their last best hope to get a republican to head the city (Sho, who is a nice guy, but is a total wolf in the coop waiting to happen).
You have to remember, too, that the media is run by the guy who created Bibleman, a newspaper that is so far right wing that it flies in circles and an alt-weekly that delights in torturing its rival.
The headline should have read “Portland Mayor Admits he had Relationship with Teenager”. That way, the denial about the age thing could be a part of the story, rather than the paper trying to play a guessing game.
Ya canโt blame a good papa bear like Sam Adams for wantnโ a little somethinโ somethin.โ I mean, he was 18 and it was totes consensual.
Lying about it was probs not a hot idea though. Why did he decide to come clean now?
It has given the Oโraygun Scolds something to get all teeth-gnashy and hysterical about.
For fuckโs sake, wonโt someone think of the chidren?
And here are the inevitable HAWT HAWT HAWT Beau Breedlove photos.

Yes, sir, yes, sir. Iโd hit that hard. And so would you!
Still waiting for the Stranger to write about the Mercury’s involvement with this.
@ 17,
Yes, because nothing’s more interesting than when the media gazes at its navel.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….
This really stinks of homophobia. Like, it’s okay to white liberals there to vote for a gay man in THEORY, but god forbid he actually has gay sex with someone. It’s bizarre.
Good lord, those eyebrows!
Also, shouldn’t that caption have read, “I blew him.”?
It was the AP feed — moved on the state wire.
And Will in Seattle, STFU about outsourcing the news to India. You know so little about, well, everything.
P.S. “Beau Breedlove” — they made that name up, right?
Just imagine how arrogant and unaccountable the Times will be when they are the only game in town.
You’re lying ECB. Look at the times on your screen grabs.–from “later this afternoon” is from Tuesday Jan 20, 2009.
Which means they got it right before they got it wrong.
Will you write a correction?
As insane as this must sound, did you tell anyone at the Times about it?
After all those layoffs, I’m sure they could use the extra help.
