Al and Tipper Gore, whose playful romance enlivened Washington and the campaign trail for a quarter century, have decided to separate after 40 years of marriage, the couple told friends Tuesday.

In an “Email from Al and Tipper Gore,” the couple said: “We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate.”

They described the decision as “mutual and mutually supportive.”

  1. Crap. now the wingnuts are going to get all hypocritical on us again. Newt- fine for 3 wives and by having an affair and divorcing one during a cancer battle. They will try to paint Gore as a bad guy for having a mutual ending of a marriage.

    I thought it was joke at first when a friend of mine posted the news on Facebook. Alas, it’s true. Yeah, I reckon after 40 years it appears quite sad. But, I don’t know all the details. I hope they both fare well.
