King Conservation District to hold March 19 public election for board of supervisor position
Nomination petition forms due March 4
RENTON—The King Conservation District (King CD) will hold a public election for a three year term for
elected position #3 for the board of supervisors on March 19, 2009.Individuals interested in running for the position are encouraged to contact the King CD for more information on the board’s duties and responsibilities. Candidates must complete a nomination petition form and gather at least 25 signatures of registered voters who reside within the district. The petition must be delivered to the King CD office by March 4 to be included on the ballot. Registered voters who reside within the district’s boundaries (which include most of King County) are eligible to submit an application.
Twenty-five signatures, incidentally, is about 17,775 signatures less than you need to get an initiative on the ballot in Seattle! But what will you do once you get elected?
The King CD provides information and technical assistance programs that are available to all landowners within the district’s boundaries on a voluntary, non-regulatory basis. It is hands-on, site specific, action and results oriented; and it initiates community outreach activities that include workshops, education programs, site visits, farm plans, and consultation on land, water, and wildlife management.
The weirdest part of this election (yes, it is a real position): Although all King County residents can vote, there’s only one polling place for each city in King County (in Seattle, it’s the downtown public library)… and you can’t vote by mail.
Interested? More info available here; the most recent story I could find that mentioned the KCD (“Boy, Cow Win at World Expo”) here.

We need your urgent help! Post something about fixies, ZipCar, or busses! Stat!
I wanna see the dick detector sent into full tilt. And, sorry, but posting about how to run for county dogcatcher, or whatever this office is, ain’t cutting it.
All volunteer? Does that pay what I think it does?
sincerely,
