I almost got hit the head with a Bible today in downtown Seattle. WEIRD.

  1. We had a good turnout in Milwaukee too. There were thugs protesting us – big guys in their puffy badass jackets. This morning I learned how to do this.

Is anyone familiar with Derek Jarmen’s movies? “Wittgenstein?”

  2. i must say, this is one of the funnier comment threads i’ve read in a while. ariel was particularly good.

for my part, i’m with the commenters who would bone the girl in picture one. i like to think her sign reads ‘repent. pervert’, rather than ‘repent pervert’, which is good advice i’d say.

  3. It did inspire my favorite chant of the day: “BRING THE RAPTURE NOW!!!” and get these folks out of here. Close second: “What do we want! YOU TO SHUT UP! When do we want it? NOOOOW!”

  4. @52, I tthink she was trying for “repent, pervert.”

But the way it is is pretty great. i would tell her, “ok, you do the repenting and i’ll do the perverting.” Then I’d ask her to come back to my place. I’d show her how it really is ok to come out rather than hate yourself. Then I’d fuck her. It would be grand.

  5. Anyone who had the strength to keep on walking and not scream in their face deserves a gold medal. Hardest thing in the world is being confronted with people who believe you don’t deserve to live and rising above the so obvious urge to kick them in the balls.

I doubt I would have been so strong.

Actually, ordinary Christian nuts I can (probably) handle. I don’t know what I’d do if Westboro Baptist Church showed up anywhere in my 50 mile radius.

  6. My mother & grandmother always claimed the only people who give a crap about who’s screwing who are the losers who are jealous they aren’t getting any….which would sort of explain most the bible-thumpers which turned out to counter-protest.

  7. Also, I think “Repent Pervert” hate-fuck girl is only helping to hold the sign. It looks like it really belongs to the older person hiding behind it. Possibly a mother or grandmother. She might not be a totally willing participant, since ya know come Monday morning her school friends are going to laugh their asses off at her. At least, when I was in high-school that’s what we’d have done…and I didn’t even go to a very liberal, pro-GLBTQ school, but we’d still rag on the Jeebus Freak kids and make fun of them.

  8. Third photo down: Guy looks as if he once regrettably sucked a cock and cannot forgive himself – wears gloves when he masturbates. Cop over right shoulder has enigmatic smile and bus in background has an advert for “OMO” – harmonic convergence or fairy tale? – your call.

  9. I’m surprised that their heads didn’t explode from being in such close proximity to all the smoldering hotness of Kelly O. At the very least, I’m sure they felt scandalized for the rest of the day. Neuters.

  10. It’s obvious these people use the same signs for every protest, and that’s why the lists of sins needs to be all-inclusive — that way they can wave the same sign at the gay rights march that they do after a Seahawks game. Sports-nuts and homos, repent.

All neatly typed, just like God typed the bible. In comic-sans.

  11. @ 34 = <3 !!

Up here in Rochester, NY, we had one lone counter-protester:

(Photo courtesy of Flickr user artoflife79.)

His sign said something about saving marriage..but his handwriting was so bad that it looked like it said “Save Mama”. (I heard many cute gay boys around me going, “What? Save MAMA?!?” “You can tell he’s not gay! His handwriting SUCKS!”) His sign was on white posterboard, & as the rain got heavier, the sign melted. I saw it fall on top of his head. The guy was already obviously discouraged, & when his sign went, he balled it up, shrugged, & walked away into the rain. May the same happen to the whole kit & caboodle of homophobia.

They say we only had dozens! There was about 150 of us:

  12. Not to invoke the devil here or anything, but where’s Ken Hutcherson in all of this? I find it hard to believe that he’s keeping his vile mouth shut with all of this going on. Has he been heard of?

  13. the last two pictures give me the impression that the cop is smiling at the two men kissing in front of the sports nuts – baby killers guy. i hope so.

  14. The guy with arms-crossed on the right of the “normal looking” sign holding chick in the first pic is my best gay!

Hi, Mikey! Did you repent this morning?

    BWAHAHAHAHA!

  15. Actually these people are out in front of Westlake Center almost every weekend. One week recently Ask Me Why You Deserve Hell Guy in #6 took it upon himself to address individuals in his vicinity whether they actually acknowledged his existence or not. As I walked past desperately trying to ignore him he shouted “And this guy…” (pointing at me) “you think your good looks will get you into Heaven?” Obviously there’s no accounting for taste but I thought what a complete closet case…

  16. R.e. the officer of the law, he was, if I recognize him aright, the awfully spicy young cop w/skull and crossbones socks who was telegraphing supportive straight guy: smiling happily at the crowd and yet mildly flirtatious with the girls (or at least this girl).

  17. Well, as for the whole “christianity” trip so-called, i think the buddhist concept of karma is somewhat more relevant here – to wit that “hatred of any kind is actually self-hatred”.
These pictured make that observation fairly unavoidable.
And legialatively, i’m up on the whole first amendment thing you guys have down there, but up here in Canada we have “hate speech” laws premised on the notion that spewing irrational hatred of an identifiable group is not the kind of noble undertaking that deserves the protection of the state – not really free speech at all – controversial perhaps, but arguable. Most European countries have them too, Oliver Wendell Holmes bit about yelling ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre being the premise.

  18. @71: I don’t live in Seattle, but if I did I think I might actually enjoy going down there on one of my sassier days and soliciting his appraisal. Kind of like getting measured for a suit, but instead he tells me which circle of hell would be best for me.

  19. @59: There was someone else helping Repent Pervert girl hold up the sign but it was another young girl about the same age. I was the dude in the green jacket standing behind her off to the right with crossed arms. I can cofirm what the others said that there was a girl from the protester crowd who got all up in her face hardcore and her expression changed 180 from the smug smirk to pretty much scared shitless.

Oh and @ Miss Maia no I did not repent. I am still a heathen homosexual pervert. Guess the sign didn’t work.

  20. I believe it was George Carlin who said: “Isn’t it mildly ironic that the people who are opposed to the right of choice on abortion and orientation are the kinds of people you wouldn’t want to fuck in the first place.”

  21. It’s always fun to poke fun at the religiously impaired, their shadowy undercurrent notwithstanding. We all know they are the fringe, and should be dismissed as such when it comes to discourse with the more real, formidable factions (i.e. the Mormon Church). Still, they give us pause because they are so disturbing. Two things that have come out of all of this are Wanda Sykes: “You know, I don’t really talk about my sexual orientation. I didn’t feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the closet, but I was living my life, . . . But that’s the way people should be able to live their lives.” and Don Savage: “If goddamned McDonald’s had organized and paid for Prop 8, we’d be marching on goddamned McDonald’s.”

    They need to fry.

  22. I remember poking fun at these types even back in junior high in the small town I’m from.

    “Do you believe in god?”
    No.
    “Or Jesus????”
    Not as such, no.
    “Then you’re going to hell!!!”
Does that mean I get to get away from you?
    “[insert wide eyed stare here]”

Or as Mark Twain put it: “Heaven for the weather, Hell for the company.”

  23. @32 with “binging” – I laughed so hard I almost passed out.

@37 – I think you hit it right on the head with the persecution complex thing. The blessed are you when people persecute you because of me thing is in the Bible. I think these people feel that they need to do this to reassure themselves that they are heros on God’s one true path, that they are really safe and secure with God if with no one else.

Thanks for taking the trouble to type out what you did about the angles you used to get through to most of them.

  24. @39:

What about Matthew 5:17-19? Christians seem to forget that Jesus (Yeshua) was a Jewish rabbi. Paul et al. cast out the Law of the Torah, not Jesus.

Christians getting al upset about homosexuality because it is seemingly condemned in the Old Testament (Torah – Law & Covenant!) but working on Saturday, divorcing and not taking a ritual bath after their period (women only…) don’t know what makes a Christian a Christian.

  25. Those girls look like the ones who go to a middle school near where I live now (red state). You know, the ones that take the virginity pledge but get the nickname “blow job queen” by the age of 12. “Bible Heels” they’re called. Bible Heels is a close cousin to Hooker Heels but self-righteous and hypocritical. You know the girls I’m talking about, the ones who slut-shame girls who go on birth control or buy condoms so they can have sex with a boyfriend, while all along the “virgin” has done guy on the football team so she wins homecoming, but it’s not “real” sex ’cause it’s anal/oral. I think one of the Baldwin brothers coined the term for Sarah Palin.

The girls who think homosexuals are going to burn in hell for doing the same $#!& they do every friday, saturday night.

  26. idk… i feel sorry for those young girls. they don’t know any better. they’ve been told something all their lives, and not yet had a chance to challenge those beliefs. i’m not sure what they will take away from their experience.

those other older guys seemed a little off as well. i don’t mean that to be insulting. i mean, these people have a hard time making friends IRL. the church is a place where they are welcomed. it kind of makes me mad that these folks are likely encouraged to demonstrate by others unwilling to do so.

you rarely see successful, together looking middle-aged men or women protesting these things. and why not? where are they? they know better. i mean, either they really know better, or they know better.

  27. Thumbs up for SPD? I feel they are on a winning streak with the obama election craziness and then the protest. Or can someone correct me if I’m wrong?

  28. Guy in 5th Photo: “EVERYONE! we NEED to start tucking our shirts INTO our jeans! this is big, people. I repeat, TUCK YOUR SHIRT INTO YOUR JEANS! there’s no better way to get young people to take you seriously! you MUST respect your 501s. and THEN we can start sending people to hell”

  29. oh dear. why must you all cuss out those that you disagree with!!! your contradicting what you are telling others to do!! dont say “fuck you, you should love everyone!” thats a total oxymoron. (btw, i am talking to all the people who have posted comments!!!!!!!!! )
