It can help people avoid home foreclosures.
One of the maddening things about our current political discourse is its sheer incoherence. Right-wingers praise and promote (through tax breaks, etc) home ownership, but oppose building real (ie, train) mass transit. But people who have to own two or three cars in order to live in some trainless suburb or exurb are more likely to lose their homes when gas prices spike and their transportation costs go up. The political positions do not jibe with the facts, but I suppose that should not come as a surprise.

Reason, logic, and common sense are wasted on many right-wingers.
I snigger each time I remember that people commute daily between Ellensburg and Everett.
Um, reason, logic, and common sense are wasted on a fairly respectable number of all of our fellow human beings from what I can see.
@3,
Sure, but I figured I’d just be topical.
Of you overlay the maps of foreclosure rates with proposed high speed rail routes, it appears that the planners intend for these trains to buoy home values in areas most affected.
The appeal of this report is strong, but don’t rely on it too heavily – you can’t effectively fight oversimplifying Republicans with oversimplifying studies like this.
Republicans support people owning a third home. For those first two, you’re on your own.
Similar to the support they show for small businesses and family farms.
But if we don’t use more oil, how will our Saudi masters give kickbacks to Cheney and the rest of the fifth columnists who put us in debt to China?
