The April city and county campaign numbers are coming in, and with them, a few surprises. A few observations, followed by the raw numbers (incumbents noted by a โ€ข).

First, it’s hard to say what’s going on in the mayor’s race yet, since neither Mayor Greg Nickels nor his main opponent, Michael McGinn, have filed any information. However, I’ll make a wild prediction and say that Nickels will outraise McGinn handily. For whatever that may be worth.

The coundil candidate with the most cash in the bank, so far anyway, is incumbent City Council member Richard Conlinโ€”hardly surprising since Conlin has known for the last four years that he planned to run for something, whether mayor or his council seat. Among challengers and candidates for open seats, populist Position 4 candidate David Bloom has the most cash on hand, followed by Mike O’Brien, who has not decided what seat he’s running for. Leaving aside Position 8 candidate Rusty Williams, who donated $30,000 to his own campaign, the candidate who raised the most this month was Position 4 candidate Sally Bagshaw, followed closely by Position 8 candidate Robert Rosencrantz.

A complete rundown of the numbers below the jump.

  1. obrien also worked for stokes lawrence–not as a lawyer, i think in the finance department–so not too surprising that he is getting checks from there.

  2. Oh, my god. That’s awful. He was just getting back into the world from that horrible nursing home. I really liked Elswinger — Larry. I’m heartbroken. Slog’s gotta say something about this.

  3. I didn’t know Elswinger personally, but the handle sounds familiar. I think I always thought he was a she (I still do the same with elenchos.) My condolences to his friends and family. May he find peace wherever he is.

  4. What about Dan?? I thought he was running for Mayor. He isn’t letting that rude person who is threatening to publish selected Slog comments when he runs. Dan has nothing to be ashamed of. Trust me– this is the 21rst century. Dan’s mainstream now.

  5. ECB please note…. – and () are redundant and, therefore, denote a positive number. Please choose a single accepted method for noting negative numbers.

    For example-
QFC’s books might show -$8.99 for their wine assets or ($8.99) to denote a shrinkage of $8.99. Listing it as -($8.99) would actually mean they gained value as in if a local journalist donated a bottle to their inventory.

    Even worse-
“Cash on Hand: -(%3,200)” indicates that their “Cash on Hand” has increased by 3,200% but with no reference it is a meaningless statistic.

Oh, and you mentioned county numbers in your opening, why are there none in the article?

Sorry, I’m not a professional journalist like you but this seems… amateurish? crappy? sub-par? Wait, I take it all back, it fits right in at The Stranger…. and I didn’t even correct your spelling ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. without rancor – isn’t it just too obvious the Stranger is a haven for bad wine and OK pot and cheap beer?

course stealing it is a bit much when a few emails will get you cases if you own a newspaper from the promoters … hard booze as well

who drinks that inflow at the office? apparently not erika.

  7. #12

Will – just had an all night orgy with six of the hottest men I have ever met – the best drinks, drugs and 10 hour sex, all at a top floor condo downtown….. killer view and three bedrooms … maybe 3 million?

You are making half assed assumptions, as usual.
