Blogging Georgetown was quick to sniff out a prank when a supposed Walmart banner went up in front of a long-vacant lot in their neighborhood on Saturday. Some of the commenters were sad that people freaked out and didn’t get the humor. Is it just me or is the overreaction the funniest part?

U District Daily blog shares the results of a survey taken by Associated Students of UW on the top five unsafest areas around campus, as perceived by respondents. I like that Greek row cracked the list, although it should have been higher. Greek life is just as metaphysically dangerous as it is physically.

Capitol Hill Seattle blog revisits the issue of skateboarders at John & Summit Park (and one man’s quest to declare skateboarding a crime) that was so popular last week. The park’s fiercest critic asked that his last name not be used due to fear of reprisal. Seriously, dude? It’s not like you drew a cartoon of Muhammad or something. Get over yourself.

  1. OMG! The unsafest areas are the same ones that the Weakly reported back in the 70s!!!!!

    God, slow news day.

Watch me pull a graven image of Mohammed out of my Top Pot donut box.

  2. The Walmart joke is great. Native Seattlites are easy to piss off. Even after 12 years of living here, they still go on about the same lame, NIMBY, faux hippie rhetoric. They usually warm up after I buy them a beer. Or sleep with them.

  3. @ 7 – You sound like you’re completely unfamiliar with Georgetown. A Walmart there would not be a good fit, for a number of reasons.

This town will give you plenty of reasons to laugh at NIMBYism, that’s for sure, but the threat of a Walmart in Georgetown isn’t one of them.
