Ran into Bill Cosby in the KUOW greenroom just now. He was wearing gray sweatpants and a purple UW sweatshirt (college obsession, check).

I shook the hand of the Cos and asked him how he liked being interview by Adrian Ryan.

He replied: “Oh, we had a BALL—a BALL.”

  1. How come when you google Bill Cosby the first suggested link is “Bill Cosby dead”? I was trying to find out who he was talking about on the snippet of Steve Sher I heard (Dorothy Height, civil rights leader).

  2. I missed the KUOW interview, but I happened to see two painful Cosby appearances on local TV today. I feel sorry for Lily and Mark at Q13 and Joyce on KONG6.

Instead of answering simple celebrity questions about parenting and whatever trivial topic seemed relevant to his appearance there, he tore them up on casual references to TV Guide and what the kids learn on the school bus.

It was tedious – almost as bad as a Don Rickles interview.

  3. @3, everyone got kicked out of our student government offices at UMass Amherst once while Cos was visiting for some Alumni fundraiser, I guess for security concerns. I’m not a fan.

  4. I loved Cosby as a kid and most of my early adult life. I was looking forward to the KUOW interview (which they’ve been pimping all week).

Sadly, it was a total bore. He’s old now, and rambles about all kinds of things. He was on for almost an entire hour, and was rarely interesting or funny or entertaining in any way. If not for his mega-star legacy, it was one of the most boring interviews I’ve ever heard. Admittedly, Steve Scher’s rambling interview style only compounded the problems. It was a mess.

I can only imagine Adrian interviewing Cosby. It would almost be like two people speaking different languages.

  5. You mean William H. Cosby Jr?

#4, I would ignore silly questions, too. His interview this morning was at least relatively interesting, they were talking about jazz and the person Fnarf mentioned in #1 while I was listening.

  6. As a child, he was one of my only connections to African Americans. I thought he was charming and very funny. So I reached my teens and had an opportunity to work at a hospital on the south side of Chicago. Almost all the African Americans I had the pleasure of meeting were also charming and funny. And that time there has some of my most cherished memories. So in a sense he broadened my world and made me a better person. Thanks Cos!

  7. Cos probably wouldn’t have said that he “had a BALL” with Adrian Ryan if he had actually READ what the jerk wrote after he talked to him. Cos has a tendency to call out people who are a-holes and let them know what he thinks. Ryan’s SLOG post about his interview was self-serving and disrespectful to a comic legend.
