Happy Saturday Morning.
Here on Blagowatch, there’s not much breaking news to report as Chicago has thunderstorms and 60 degree weather, melting the last two weeks accumulation of snow and ice into flash floods, except that Blago himself claims he may be a space alien. But, for your holiday weekend pleasure, an overview and update:
Blago insists that the Truth Will Set Him Free.
Blago’s lawyer is a total scumbag. Got R. Kelly off his kiddie porn charges, but lost a lot of cases for various politicians and mobsters. Doesn’t like this when reporters point this out, so I’m probably off his Xmas list.
Blago’s impeachment is not a given, despite the deep, deep shame he has brought upon the great state of Illinois. Fitz might not share all the info the Feds have, since that will screw up their investigation (with which Obama and Co. are cooperating fully). Illinois Republicans (a rung almost as low as Illinois Nazis) are trying to make Obama look bad by issuing subpoenas for Rahm and other Obama aides. No one will ever actually dig deep enough into the cesspit that is Illinois politics to get the guys behind the guys behind the guys. But at least this inspires some poetry, “The Night Before Fitzmas.”
So, the take-away? This isn’t going to end anytime soon. Will provide a comic/dark counterpart to the Inauguration Parties nationwide.

The “guy behind the guy behind the guy” story deserves its own post. Very interesting speculation.
Democrats were decried as conducting endless political witch hunts when digging to get answers about torture, about who outed a CIA agent, about politicizing the D.O.J., about countless scandals that remain unresolved.
And here we go, day 1, Republicans foaming at the mouth making linkages that are both illogical and irresponsible.
it makes me sick.
Probably the worst thing to come of this scandal is the realization that Illinois politicians are shamelessly corrupt, and Obama is an Illinois politician.
Seriously, the Democrats, and Obama, need to get this guy out of office asap.
Democrats need to show folks we can make government work. Impeachment shouldn’t take more than a one day hearing, sum up, have a vote, then Blago is done. Lacking a “right” to this job — it isn’t his “property” you know — Blago has zero due process rights in the impeachment process.
Obama could announce he will have to certify a state is free of corruption at the top before that state gets any stimulus dollars, to light a fire under the Ill. legislators on impeachment. Bonus: he could name Fitzpatrick as the new head of the “Federal Stimulus Antifraud Certification” division. That guy Fitzpatrick should be training all the other US assistant attorneys on political corruption cases anyway. Give him a promotion.
But mainly get Blago out of there. He’s tarnishing the brand and he is a crook.
I agree that the dems need to toss Blago over the side ASAP. But are you sure about him having no due process rights? He shouldn’t have any, but the Illinois constitution might say something different. I hope you’re right.
But the blogger who I get all my news from says Blago’s gonna walk. He makes an interesting case. It will be sad, but funny, if he’s right:

the recorded attempts to sell the seat were actually with blago’s cooperation, he was attempting to ‘spread the wealth’ of his impending indictments by getting others to respond to his offers. obviously he got some good convo from someone important because he’s feelin’ ballsy enough to stick around.
