A few minutes ago, the crane picked up a beam and put it down somewhere else. The boring still has not begun.

Christopher Frizzelle was The Stranger's print editor, and first joined the staff in 2003. He was the editor-in-chief from 2007 to 2016, and edited the story by Eli Sanders that won a 2012 Pulitzer...

  1. I’m thinking you really need to borrow a telephoto lens (for your iPhone? yeah okay, maybe not…) as there are no doubt going to be some hotties walking around once it warms up a bit. Also, what if someone fell over the edge, is there even a barrier? Because that would suck.

  2. Man, I think I read that once the boring machine starts up it turns into a 24/7 site, with the heaviest truck traffic scheduled overnight, constantly hauling away the dirt the borer’s gonna kick out. I note the diagrams show the truck entrance and exit will at least be on the Denny side rather than the John one, thank goodness for poor Christopher. I hope there’s not a lot of reversing involved in the backhoe/truck work, you know: beeeeep-beeeeeeep-beeeeeeeeeeeep.

And to you, dear Canuck, a) good morning, and b) I admire your optimism that the worksite somehow might feature hotties some day.

  3. Once again, same time stamp, we are connected on the celestial highway once more…

I know there will be hotties, gus, it’s pretty much the law of any construction site: Before they hire them, they make them take off their shirts, recommend a low carb diet or tanning bed minutes as required, and then…bazinga! We reap the benefits…sigh.

(do I have an over-active imagination?)

  4. If that isn’t your imagination, then all I can suppose is that the beauty of Canadian construction workers must surpass that of our Seattle ones by an order of magnitude.

  5. I will begin a new project of taking photos on my phone and submitting them to Slog, perhaps under a new feature: “Hot or Not”? much like the erudite magazines we favour. I’m sure I don’t need to get the subject’s permission, or anything like that??

  6. Cost overruns!!! Traffic Congestion!!! Taxpayer Dollars!!! Green Cities!!! Billionaires!!! Surface Transit!!!

(There… that should help complete the comment section of any Stranger tunnel boring post)

  7. @ Canuck, you don’t really think construction workers follow fad diets, do you? Those guys can probably burn 5,000 calories some days.

  8. But are they doing their ab crunches, Matt? Are they working on their definition, or are they merely hefting steel about? Are they tanning in the off season? Are they waxing? These are the questions that keep me up at night. Fad diets or not, I really don’t care, as long as I have something nice to look at during the traffic jams.
