The front door at Smith.
(This actually happened last night when I was there eating some tasty lamb. The dude who broke the door yelled “That wasn’t me!” then nonchalantly stood around and pretended to wait for a table for a minute, then fled on foot into the night. Not sure if it was an accident or on purpose. Really I just wanted to use the “breaking news” joke. Because GET IT???)

Something similar happened Saturday afternoon at Cafe Vita next door. Guy jumps on bags of coffee beans, smashing them into a cabinet and knocking down a shelf. He then looked around nonchalantly and dashed out, leaving his two friends to say “he didn’t hit the cabinet, he just jumped on the bags of coffee beans.” Was this guy a bit heavy-set, long dark braid, crunchy-hippy? If so, I think we have a crime wave.
@1 It takes at least a trifecta to make a crime wave (and not necessarily the same person) or so fark would have me believe.
What we may have here is a serial hooliganist.
There were five (FIVE!) cop cars on the corner of 17th & Thomas just after it happened.
I saw something very similar this summer at Quinn’s… guy leaning on huge front window shattered it, stood there for a second, then ran off. Hilarious.
(Albeit very scary for the people dining beneath that window.)
An attack on Linda is an attack on us all. I implore you – all of you – do not rest one moment until this mountebank is seized and brought before the appropriate controlling legal authority. Smith is sacred to me, to you, to all of us. Thank you.
What @6 said.
Duh, I just realized I mistook Smith for Quinn. Both occupy the “delicious” part of my brain.
First Smith’s garage door got stuck a couple of years ago, now this. Based on these incidents one can only conclude that –
THE CURSE OF 322 15TH AVENUE EAST HAS RETURNED!!!
@6
“Mountebank” is a cool word and all, but not really appropriate for this fellow. Perhaps “knave” would be better?
@9
The garage door did more than get stuck – it fell on a poor bartenders head! I’m sure he’s got a good scar to prove it.
The guy who did it was at 22 Doors just mins before he broke Smith’s door. He was acting nuts, and asking everyone for cigarettes. When I told him that we didn’t have any he yelled “Fuck this place!” and threw the door open and took off. We left about 2 mins later to go to Smith and saw the broken door. The person cleaning it up confirmed it was, “The crazy guy.”
