It must be Opposite Day in the southwest, because Arizona governor Jan Brewer smartly vetoed two bills today. The first one would have allowed guns on college campuses, and the second was the dumb-ass birther bill:

As for her decision to veto this bill, Gov. Brewer said in part: “I never imagined being presented with a bill that could require candidates for President of the greatest and most powerful nation on earth to submit their ‘early baptismal or circumcision certificates’… this is a bridge too far. This measure creates significant new problems while failing to do anything constructive for Arizona.”

Um…yay, Governor Brewer?

  5. The best part of that birther bill story is the fact that Arizona doesn’t even issue long form birth certificates. So if a presidential candidate was born in Arizona, they wouldn’t have made it on their home state’s ballot! Dumb asses…

  6. I think a blue state needs to pass and sign a law requiring that all future presidential candidates present certificates attesting that their foreskins and/or clitoral hoods/clitoritididididides/labia are intact and not otherwise functionally impaired by voluntary body modifications.

  7. Wait, CIRCUMCISION certificates? I’ve been doing genealogy for a decade and I’ve never even heard of these. See, that’s the problem; with Obama you’ve got “no birth certificate” but with Hillary you would have had “no circumcision certificate”. Therefore, Democrats aren’t people. QED.     I do have to say, however, I’m shocked, SHOCKED, that she actually vetoed these bills. I figured they were gonna be law.

  12. This had nothing to do with anything I’m betting but the current version being in such a way as to invite a legal war. I’m betting they will come back with a cleaner version. Other states will continue this.

    And, remember, they have I believe enough votes to overturn a veto.
