Cliff-fans, rejoice! Cliff Mass is back on the air—not on KUOW with Steve Scher (boooooo), but on KPLU on Fridays at 9 a.m. after the NPR news and the absurdly cutely named Birdnote (it is notes about birds).

Weatherhero Mass notes he’ll be on with one Keith Seinfeld, “an award-winning science journalist” and former Seattle Times and Tacoma News Tribune staff reporter:

I am looking forward to an active and interesting conversation with Keith, who plans to prepare carefully before each of our segments. It makes a real difference talking to someone who is really interested and enthusiastic about a topic.

What—or rather who—on earth could Mass be referring to?!*

*With apologies to Winston Churchill, it is too early to undangle this preposition.

  1. WOOT! Cliff doesn’t just want to present the weather, he wants people to *understand* the weather. Wouldn’t you say that’s appropriate for what is considered educational radio? Glad to see he found a new home.

  2. Last week on his morning show, Steve Fucking Scherr was talking about, of all things, high school math (i.e. the topic that Cliff Mass discussed, leading to his dismissal).

  3. Going for a 2/2 record here – only two posts on SLOG ever and both expressing dismay at Steve Scher. I’m happy that Cliff Mass focused on the fact that Scher shows no depth of interest or meaningful research or, well, any heart rate at all, regardless of subject matter. I can’t hear that hammered home enough. He’s a semi-curious bystander wasting learning space and guests’ time on an otherwise great station.

  4. Scher always sounded interested to me in the topic-at-hand—just not NPR-[mock?-]earnest about it. I’m glad Dr Mass has a place where what he wants to do meshes well with what’s wanted of him, my wish for all of us.
