Formerly local treasure Hari Kondabolu is back in town for a few weeks, and giving you approximately a grillion chances to see him. So don’t fuck this one up.
Tonight he’ll be at Laffhole (Chop Suey, doors at 9, show at 10), which will also feature Barry Sobel (Dr. Katz, SNL, The Boondocks), Luke Burbank (Too Beautiful to Live), and a bunch of others.
And Thurs-Sat Hari will headline the Comedy Underground (109 S Washington St) with San Francisco’s W. Kamau Bell. Here are some words about Bell from comedian Margaret Cho:
W. Kamau Bell is the most important guy doing comedy right now. Do yourself a favor and go see him. He’s got the most astute, hilarious and completely righteous material going and he’s going to be a legend in his own lifetime like Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce. Think Bill Hicks but slightly taller.

These guys are no Broken Lizard.
So an Indian guy making Indian racial jokes and a black guy making black racial jokes are the new big things in comedy? It’s funny and all but we’ve heard this material for years.
I like how they are just “a black guy” and “an indian guy” and making “racial jokes” to you. Just racial jokes? The stuff isn’t nuanced in any way to you. Just minorities talking about race and you’re bored with that. You’re “cliche,” dude.
Like I said, it’s funny and all but it’s nothing new to get excited about. If it were a still of a fat guy on stage I would have expected food jokes. If it were a dude in a wife beater I’d expect red neck jokes. I see the nuance you speak of but the source material is stale.
