I’ve never understood all the hate Comic Sans gets. I think its pretty.
Holy shit.
Reading this on the Mcsweeny’s site is oddly disappointing and disconcerting since it wasn’t actually shown in comic sans… lindy-west-spicy-pepper-graphic-with-the-word-“new”-inside-it disconcerting.
If Comic Sans has been used inapprpriately more than other fonts, it’s because people love it more than other fonts.
I wish that there were a good set of comic sans math symbols, because it would make a great, friendly font for chalkboard-like mathematical exposition.
@3: Yes, I did find that strange. It kind of undermined the whole rant.
Comic Sans may look cute but it’s hiding a very very dark secret. Bet it’s going to kill all your other fonts.
Thomas Kinkade was busted for DUI in Carmel friday night. get ON IT!!!
Man, graphics people sure have their priorities …
I am Impact.
I am the font you select each time to “see what it is”. and then run screaming…away from.
I am narrow and bold.
You call me brash, unreadable.
I say, I have a function.
Look at me now:

I am impact…I am narrow so I fit in where others don’t.
I am bold so I make “An Impact”!
I am more than just headers.
I don’t scream or rant…I PROCLAIM!
IMPACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AUREBESH FOREVER!

@9 Impact, you are also the font of LOLcats. Let’s not get too cocky.
Webdings is in the house.
@10: high five!
On a similar note, my wife once had Kryptonian memorized well enough to be able to read it.
Oh, uh, snap?
Nope!
‘Cause only people without typographic sensibilities use Comic Sans. Zzzzzz.
@4 With XeTeX (or XeLaTeX) and the mathspec package you can do all the maths you like in Comic Sans. There are even Comic Sans Greek glyphs to fit right in. I can’t recall whether the intgral and summation signs are suitably daffy though.
Na na na NeutraFace na na NeutraFace.
Georgia is my girl.
Matthew @ 15: That’s fantastic. I already have MikTeX so I already have XeTeX. I will try this as soon as I get the chance. Thanks!
Times New Roman wept geriatric serifed tears.
The bastard child of Helvetica and Satan has quite the attitude.
It is a font well-loved by PTAs.
At least you’re not goddamn Papyrus–the most loathsome of all fonts. I knew Avatar was going to be shit when the papyrus subtitles showed up. FUCK YOU PAPYRUS!!!!
I love me some Garamond.
this is great. it obviously can be said about alot of things right now. and its why i feel like poo pooing all the pretentious attitude behind this kind of lowest common denominator rules shit. it calls others pretentious but says things like “While Univers is refilling his allergy prescriptions, I’m racing my tricked-out, nitrous-laden Honda Civic against Tokyo gangsters who’ll kill me if I don’t cross the finish line first.”
yeah i know this is humorous and about type but to me it covers alot of other things. in particular its the standard line post-modern criticism of minimalism. i like high-brow minimalism. and my comment will now implode as i say they are in a dialectic
@4 – Your dreams have come true:

All I know is that comic people don’t use comic sans… It’s just a fun font for power point presentations, I guess.
Comic sans in anything other than an actual comic strip (which knows better anyway) is a crime against nature.
I used Comic Sans on my first webcomic. But that was back in the days when Blambot fonts didn’t even exist.
Eurostile… what *raises roof motion
