Not sure exactly when this was posted at King Cat Theater’s site, but, um, wow.

Message to our Patron:

We would like inform everyone who had come for an event to the King Cat Theater from May of 2008 to May of 2009 that all the credit card transactions you had made during these times were not charged until this week. Once again if you see any credit card transaction during these few weeks, they are NOT any new transactions or fraudulent but they are your charges that you have made during your visit to our Venue. We value you as customer and would like for your cooperation and understanding. We do have record of every transaction on file and so does the credit card company processor. If you have any questions please call or email booking@kingcattheater.com

  1. How the fuck could these guys live without this cash flow for an entire year?!? Are they selling cocaine out of the basement?

  2. Wow. That could really fuck with some people’s accounts; what if they used debit cards? I would be pissed if something like this happened to me. Then again, I’m gonna assume that most of the people affected are rich anyway, and probably wouldn’t notice unless told.

  3. Well, it appears that the shortest of statutes of limitations in Washington is 3 years for an oral contract(http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-…), but 6 years for written which I believe a sale through their website would likely constitute, but I’m no lawyer. The Attorney General’s office also has this note, http://www.atg.wa.gov/BlogPost.aspx?id=1…, that mentions the statute of limitations to sue for collections being typically 6 years. So, it may be difficult to avoid paying even though they screwed up.

  4. HOW THE FUCK IS THIS POSSIBLE!?

As an accountant, I don’t know how a company in the year 2009 could miss an entire year’s worth of credit cards. Cash accounts for such a small fraction of the transactions.

    I… I… I have no words.

  5. Not surprising about the King Cat, but this does happen. Businesses usually catch it within a month, though.

I volunteer with the 3 Dollar Bill Film Festival every year and we had interesting interactions with the staff last October.

  6. Well, that’s probably illegal. As a former worker at WAMU in the EBT department, a company has up to 1 year legally to charge you, but it is dependent on the bank. Some banks won’t take charges over 90 days. However, if it’s a debit transaction, it must be processed within 10 business days.

  7. the owner amaani is such a fucking tool. do not go to king cat theatre unless your ready for 9 dollar drinks. Fuck you amaani.

  8. Is someone at The Stranger investigating how in the world a theatre could go a year without noticing the missing transactions? That’s really fascinating news, folks.

  9. I think it’s a front for Mafia activity.

There, we were all thinking it, I just thought I would say it.

  10. Can you imagine if you figured out last summer that you were never getting billed for $9 drinks month after month?
Wonder if business picked up because of it?

  11. I wonder how much money was lost because people’s accounts no longer existed at the time they tried to process the bill. I know a lot of people who got rid most/all of their credit cards late last year when the economy was tanking.
