Because the Coast Guard has been looking for you.
The bicycle, a red “Giant” 10 speed, was found after the 5:30 p.m. run from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, according to the Coast Guard. The bicycle was found on the ferry’s car deck raising the possibility that its rider may have gone overboard. […]
The Coast Guard, using several boats and a helicopter, searched a 15-square miles area in Elliott Bay between Seattle and Bainbridge Island for four hours, but turned up nothing.
Are you missing a Bainbridge-bound friend who owns a red 10 speed? Tell the Coast Guard to resume the search.

isn’t it likely that the person just forgot to grab their bike as they walked off the ferry?
Has Erica been riding the ferry lately?
@1
No, because that would mean they’re too stupid to live.
@3 Anyone who rides the ferry with any frequency knows how easy it is to leave your car on the ferry. While people only leave their car behind occasionally (more frequently than you think) everyone has at least come close to getting off without their car.
When you ride the ferry every day, walk on, walk off, etc. etc. for years and years and then you drive or ride a bike it is very easy to walk off and forget.
Does Giant make a 10-speed? Does anyone?
What I always think is funny is how often people leave their bikes on those racks on the front of the bus. It happens a lot.
this just goes to show whats wrong with a car centric society
Huh. When I was actively suicidal, the ferry always would have been my method of choice, but it’s dumb to leave your bike behind. Walk on if you’re planning on going for a swim.
Way to get all freaky.
People forget things all the time – cell phones, cars, bikes, Student IDs, purses, backpacks, umbrellas.
Hint: that’s why we have these things called Lost & Found.
Sometimes I’ve driven into work and taken the bus home, or taken the bus to work and walked to where I thought my car was.
We’re human.
Oh, and fwiw all these objects can easily be changed into bombs (or at least objects that look like them).
But being paranoid just means you’re paranoid.
OMG! Snow Watch 2009! AAAAAAHHHHH!
When they say 10 speed, do they mean a bike with two chainrings in front and 5 cogs in back? Do they mean a classically shaped road bike? Do they mean a really new style road bike with 10 cogs in the back?
Maybe it really is a 10 speed, and somebody just abandoned their rusted out, piece of shit 70’s vintage road bike because Goodwill wouldn’t take it.
@7: Sooooo…. how *is* The Netherlands nowadays?
