…is really happening. Really. This Saturday night. Ira Glass will be “DJing”—is that the correct verb form for “inflicting your own personal music preferences on a room full of strangers at a dangerously loud volume”?—at Re-bar and I will be “DJing” as well. For real. Really. But unlike most DJs, Ira and I will be spunning (?) actual music. All of this DJing happens after Ira’s talk—”Radio Stories and Other Stories”—Saturday night at Benaroya Hall. There still a few tickets available for Ira’s talk at Benaroya—including some $30 seats—and you can get ’em here. Ira’s hilarious live-and-in-person and you should go see him live-and-in-person. From reading your books, and your dismissal of “dance” music (aka: music people like to hear at clubs..?) I can only assume your portion of the evening will be a melange of “wash this man right outta my hair”, “dance 10, looks 3”, and maybe some highlights from South Pacific? Are you going to “mix” them (I have no idea what I’m talking about) or lead people in show tune sing-a-longs? Will there be a Bjork tune for Terry? Inquiring minds, and all that…

What is wrong with you guys…this is so awesome I almost want to move to Seattle.
The real question: can either of you beatmatch or will it be one train wreck after another? Will you be using CDJs or Tech 12s? Or going totally new school with ipods and laptops? If you’re not going to try to mix properly, will you at least borrow Ira’s glasses for the duration of your set? or will this be a dual dj set on 3+ turntables, with each of you mixing off the other’s records?

@12 Have they even converted South Pacific and Pal Joey to CDs or made them available on iTunes? Won’t they have to use records? That said, if I lived in Seattle, I would want a front row seat.
Having seen and thus fallen in love with Ira once in Denver, and stalker-crushed on Dan more than is remotely healthy, I am seriously tempted to drive 20-odd hours to Seattle for this. Damn my work and responsibilities and rational behavior.

Were this just Ira Glass spinning, I’d certainly want to go. If it were Ira spinning with David Sedaris or Sarah Vowell doing spoken word over Ira’s selections, I’d drop everything and go.
I saw Ira’s show in L.A. & it was AMAZING. Even without Dan & his cool hair inflicting their musical tastes upon the crowd afterward.

We’re going to be in Seattle (from Texas and NYC) for Ira’s talk and REALLY want to go to this after event. But my 17 year old grandaughter will be with us. Do you think they’d let her in (given that she will be with her grandmother)??
