Apparently the dolphins were all on break, or the pirates got them hooked on khat, because those crazy swashbucklers have attacked another freighter.

  1. Hah! Our friendly neighborhood Marxist really scared them off with his “decisive action.”

He didn’t do a damn thing, and now they’re emboldened.

    B. Hussein Obama = Jimmy Carter.

  2. For Slog the pirates are always a joke.
    Think.

If they take more US ships or personnel and Obama can’t figure out a way to stop it it is going to be a big negative for him and us politically.

This of course requires dealing with the need for proper use of force, a big scary thing for hipsters, it just sounds too all American doesn’t it. And many past crimes in USA use of force, etc. etc., we know, we know.

Well Roosevelt and Kennedy wouldn’t shrink from discussing it or using force.

It’s time for people on the left to step up to the plate and realize we better use it (when warranted, proportional etc.) or else we give this whole security issue back to GOP and actually == we don’t really have a moral mandate to govern.

And that includes everyone from Obama on down to internet posters and the grass roots.

At what point do you stop joking about this and help figure out a solution, help explain the possible solutions, or generally, take it seriously?

  3. Wow “Pirates have used rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons to attack” ROFL HA HA HA HA HA

“The pirates damaged the Liberty Sun, which was carrying a cargo of food aid”

ROFL HA HA HA HA HA lookie they might stop food aid for starving people that’s soooo funny yuck yuck yuck! whoopee!!

The link mentions the pirates’ vows of revenge, hoo hoo ha ha chuckle chuckle chuckle!

We might have a low level war here, guffaw guffaw!

  4. Part of the story is being missed. Namely that the shipping company owners are too cheap to put a small armed team of security guards on ships that pass through dangerous areas. The equivalent would be if banks thought armored cars were too expensive and they transported money in ups trucks with unarmed drivers and the doors open has they drove through rough inner city neighborhoods. The regular crew following the leadership of a team of six armed guards could stop any of the pirate attacks that we have seen. Easy. The shippers have done the math and at this point itโ€™s cheaper to pay a ransom for the one in a thousand ships that get hijacked.

The expectation that our navy patrol the waters at a level that ensures the safety of our cargo ships is not realistic. The equivalent would be if the banks would expect the police to patrol everywhere at a level that they did not have to use armored cars to deliver money. There would always be an area that was missed and thatโ€™s where the hijackers would go.

  5. Basil dear, I think the mildew is getting to you again. Go get that nice bottle of bleach water I bought you, and spray spray spray all that nasty mildew away! Since you refuse to leave your basement apartment, it’s really your only choice.

I know you think the mildew is your pet, but really it’s not. Stick to your hermit crab, darling.

  6. I propose we start a war on piracy, because when we had a war on drugs, and a war on terrorism, drugs and terrorism were defeated. We should start our war by stripping away the freedom to assemble – pirates LOVE hanging out in groups – and the right to bear arms with hooks on them.

  7. Pirates never attacked a US flagged ship when BUSH was President.
They have attacked two in a week.

North Korea proceeds with interballistic missle testing.
Iran proceeds with nuclear weapon material production.
Pakistan gives up chunks of territory to Taliban control.
Europe cheers Obama when he bashes America but gives Obama no material support of any kind.

Oh yeah, Obama is slashing defense spending as well.

  8. @9: I can’t seem to think of any major breaches of security while Bush was president, nope, none… no major breaches come to mind. Hm.

  9. celebrate divershitty because everyone is exactly the same in every way and everyone is on the same level and absolutely no differences exist anywhere

  10. Also, prior to this incident, many shipping companies, of all nationalities, chose to just pay the ransom. It was a cost of doing business. But many people are too stupid to pay that much attention, espeically when they can just blame that black guy who somehow got to be president.
