Profootballtalk is reporting that the Seahawks have signed former Indianapolis Colt and Arizona Cardinal Edgerrin James to a one-year deal.

James put up decent numbers during last year’s post-season. He also turned 31 earlier this month, making him a bit long in the tooth for a running back, and undoubtedly in the twilight years of his career. Still, the Hawks’ three running backs currently on the rosterโ€”Julius Jones, Justin Forsett, and TJ Duckettโ€”haven’t done much to impress this preseason, so bringing James in can’t really hurt, right?

  1. I am so fascinated by the mere notion of Seattle as a sports town.

I am utterly disbelieveing that sports fans read SLOG.

Dan Savage, please put an end to these silly posts!

  2. Something needs to be done to give our running game a shot in the arm. Perhaps a veteran like James can show the others how it’s done.

Oh and @1, I am a sports fan and I read SLOG

  3. @1 And here I am, utterly not surprised to see the first comment come from a sanctimonious prick who manages to talk shit about sports AND kiss Dan’s ass at the same time!

On topic: seems like a move to get some depth at the position (Justin Forsett backing up both Jones and Duckett is a bit of a stretch), but we don’t usually carry 6 running backs, so I’m wondering where they’re cutting from to make room for him.

  4. Edge is a good pick-up, if only to play him against the Cardinals (that’s a division rival and two games for those keeping score at home). He’s old, but not too old to show up the team that dissed him.

  5. Yet another once-great lumbering towards retirement with a final stop in Seattle before calling it career. Edge is joining a long and distinguished lineage alongside Franco Harris, Jerry Rice, Patrick Ewing and Rickey Henderson. I look forward to Peyton Manning playing here in 2017.

  6. I like the pick-up, but if the Hawks want to see a running game they need to look to the ailing O-line first. Remember the glory years when Seattle had arguably the best O-line in the NFL?

  7. I thought Forsett looked pretty good on Saturday. But agreed on Jones and Duckett. Neither cracks the middle tier in fantasy rankings, which I think says it all.

  8. I echo #10

Bigger news is that Chris SPencer is going to be out 4-6 weeks. With Walter Jones ailing, Mike Wahle gone, Spencers new news– aint no back gonna run anywheres.

But Im still positive. Cards are going down.
