Donkey Punch?
In Cleveland, Ohio calling someone a “DP” is a fighting word. It comes from “displaced person.” At the end of WWII all the middle european refugees came to work in steel mills. It was used as a negative term for someone who didn’t speak english, had bad hygiene, and was generally stupid.
Abbreviations can mean multiple things. I remember when FTW meant “Fuck the world.” If Domestic Partnerships take off, expect DP to come to mean that first and double penetration second.
I like to say “DP,” meaning Domestic Partner, but not explain. Watching the other person try to figure it out is fun. (I think part of the problem is, “If I’m not careful when I ask what DP means, it will reveal my familiarity with porn; so how do I ask in a way that will not do that?”) Just doing my little bit to expand people’s horizons.
Also it stands for Disabled Person. It’s on all the license plates, and those tag things they hang from their rear-view mirrors.
At some point I may start referring to my DP as “my everything-but-husband.”
Back when I was a different-sex DP, we used to call it common law married.
So I’m not sure which way to vote.
DAVID SCHMADER IS LIKE MISTY FLOSS STRANDS HOWLING IN THE WIND AND HAIL AND MUSS OF SEATTLE. WHAT A HOME, WHAT A RANGE.
NOT A COMPLIMENT.
STILL LOOK LIKE U CAN’T TELL ME NOTHING.
How about “none of the above?”
In my neck of the continent, “DP” stands for “displaced person” and is used as a derogatory term for an immigrant refugee, or for resident foreigners in generally . Second World War derivation I believe.
On my street, calling someone a DP will get you a slug in the face.
I always used it to mean Dr. Pepper. But I should probably stop using that terminology at work now.
director of photography.
Domestic Partners could be DO-PA’s. But DP is double penetration.
Oh, I like that. “This is Steve, my Dopa.”
This is just another case of the damn libruls messing with the traditional meanings of our acronyms! IF JAYSUS HAD WANTED “DP” TO MEAN ANYTHING ELSE THAN A DICK IN THE PINK AND A DICK IN THE POOPER, HE WOULD’VE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT IT IN LEVITICUS! STOP ASSAULTING MY VALUES!
DP =good
CBT =really bad
so…what about double-fisting? is it carrying around 2 beers in one hand…2 fists in a vagina…or is it both hands holding 2 beers in a vagina?
@15 – that’s misogynist.
@16 – you’re a towel
An “anyone wanna do DP today?” text message has long been a classic source for middle-school level giggles here San Francisco, as it’s the shorthand for a very popular park to hang out at in the summertime. I imagine it leads to equal amounts of confusion to people arranging the other thing, as well.
DP = Double play. Duh.
Which in turn, I suppose, leads to two displaced players trotting forlornly back to the dugout.
Don Pardo, the King Of Announcers.
Diet Pepsi?
@18 Let’s DP in DP is probably something that’s passed around during the Folsom fair or D.A.
DP is my favorite happy hour libation. Dom Perignon.
10 has it right.
