TALL SHIP LADY WASHINGTON OWNER SPONSORS CONTEST FOR ABERDEEN FACILITY LOGO
Public to select a favorite from among three finalists via the Historical Seaport website
Aberdeen, Wash. โ The Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, owner of the tall ships Lady Washington, the Official Ship of the State of Washington, and her companion ship Hawaiian Chieftain, has announced a contest for the design of the logo for Seaport Landing, a new home for the ships on the Aberdeen waterfront. The logo will become a key component in public communications for the project, which is currently in the design and fundraising stages. Judging will include an opportunity for the public at large to vote for its favorite design via the Historical Seaportโs website, http://www.historicalseaport.org/.
Seaport Landing will be a multi-use visitor destination and ship maintenance facility that will transform a degraded, industrial shoreline on the Chehalis River into a vibrant attraction and anchor point for Aberdeen revitalization efforts. Designed to meet โgreenโ building standards, the facility will also provide easy water access to the Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge, the Chehalis Basin Surge Plain Natural Area Preserve, and 36 miles of navigable waterways, all within 6.5 miles of the site.
Chartered in 1986 by the City of Aberdeen to construct Lady Washington, GHHSA is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 public development authority that provides educational, vocational, recreational and ambassadorial activities and experiences that promote and preserve the maritime history of Grays Harbor, the Pacific Northwest, and our nation while serving the needs of the community. Each year, the ships travel to more than 40 ports in Washington, Oregon, California, and British Columbia. Approximately 200,000 elementary and high school students have participated in educational programs since Lady Washingtonโs launch in 1989.
The Seaport Landing Logo Design Contest is open to everyone. Complete contest rules, an entry form, and Seaport Landing background materials are available at http://www.historicalseaport.org/. Prizes include two gift certificates: One for a Lady Washington / Hawaiian Chieftain sailing; the second for two youths aged 11 to 17 to sail for a week aboard Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain in the summer of 2009 to the San Juan Islands of Puget Sound.
Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2009. GHHSA will select three finalists and offer the public an opportunity to vote for its favorite entry by visiting the Historical Seaport website from February 5-15, 2009. Contest winners will be announced Tuesday, February 17, 2009.

probably should read “Tall Ship ‘Lady Washington’… She’s a boat, but she is pretty.
Being from Hoquiam, I’m suprised the article isn’t about a meth house, or Jesus.
