An ambitious nationwide one-day strike by fast food and other low-wage workers has hit about 50 cities this morning, shutting down restaurants from New York to Dallas to Missoula. In Seattle, the strike has expanded from fast food restaurants to specialty coffee shops, with downtown Starbucks, Specialty’s Coffee, and Top Pot the target of early morning pickets. Low-wage workers in nearby Tacoma will also join in the fun, with walkouts planned at Arby’s and Papa Johns.

Organizers have posted an updated list of planned walkouts, but just like happened during Seattle’s successful May 30 strike, we’re beginning to see spontaneous walkouts at additional locations, including, organizers report, the Jimmy John’s at 1221 Madison and the Specialties Coffee at Columbia Tower.
