A pro-government-run-health-care-system protester bit the finger off an anti-government-run-health-care-system protester in California last night. The finger was successfully reattached thanks to a… government-run-health-care system.

  1. Not a proud day for America. Or democracy. Or the ideals of free expression and protest.

Not a proud day for the human race, in fact. Probably a good day to catch up on the threat of Near Earth Objects since it’s can’t get much more depressing.

  2. Well, while the irony presented is funny, let’s be clear that the item of protest is a Fed-subsidized health care system for all citizens, while the guy who got his finger bit off got care through a Fed-subsidized system for retirees… which is a bit different. He’s probably protesting out of a(n ill-advised) fear that a public system will cost him his Medicare.

He’s still a stupid asshole, though.

  3. Jesus H. Christ, it’s a fucking healthcare bill! The way some of these people carry on, you’d think we were arguing over some intense, life-or-death apocalypse scenario, rather than a piece of legislation.

  4. Maybe it’s not life-and-death for you, Hernandez, but it is for a lot of people. Sadly, most of those people are trying to quash this needed reform.

  5. @9 when you only listen to people like Limbaugh, Beck and Palin who spout sensationalistic bullshit about death panels and fascist government takeovers, then it does start to look like a life-or-death apocalypse scenario. (The supreme irony being the fact that these people didn’t give a shit when Dubya shredded the Bill of Rights because those same talking heads lulled them into a false sense of security.)

  6. “The pro-reformer got up. The anti-reformer tried to block him from standing on the curb. A short scuffle ensued, and it was unclear to Kuns who was doing what to whom. The anti-reformers surrounding the fighting men stayed back. When the fight ended, the pro-reformer crossed the street and announced to the MoveOn rally that he’d bitten the man’s finger off.

“He was certainly not swaggering,” Kuns said, referencing earlier reports saying he had been. “He was pissed and he was shaking.”

“He was angry. His demeanor was what you’d expect from somebody who’d just been hit hard. He was defensive.”

So the anti-reform nut hit the pro-reform protester so hard the man flew to the ground? Too bad the pro reform guy didn’t simply file a suit, but hell if that was me I am sure I would have gone into a rage too, so I can’t really blame him for a physical retaliation. However, biting dude’s finger off straight through the meat and bone is a bit, uh, intense. Too bad the guy didn’t have private insurance- then he would still be in the doctor’s office with his finger in a baggie waiting for his deductible to clear.

  7. Damn those Medicare-using and Medicaid-using Birthers and their hypocrisy!

Oh, by the way, if you don’t want socialized services you have to work on Monday (federal holiday) and you can’t use my public roads, highways, and sidewalks or go in my library or call the police or fire for help.

Just whine in the dark like the little unpatriotic mushrooms you are.

  8. Medicinal leeches are sometimes used to help reattached digits maintain proper circulation while capillary networks grow back. This is also richly ironic, as “Leech!” is often hurled as an epithet at pro-reform people by the anti-reform troglodytes.
