Sweet!!
And I did not once think of sushi.
Um. I hope that’s not a Puget Sound Blue Ringed Octopus. They happen to be deadly poisonous and look completely harmless. It’s hard to tell what kind it is since Octopi can change colors. Even the more common Red Octopus rubescens is poisonous – and that could be a baby Red.
PS. So. Yeah. NEVER pick up an octopus from Puget Sound.
@2 Eek!
While blue-ringed octopuses don’t seem to actually live here, I’m sure there are other nasty ones that could be toxic. Presumably the photo-taker did not post to Flickr a photo taken before the subject croaked, though.
I was just about to say, blue-ringed octopuses live in Australia and Indonesia, not here.
They’re awesome, though — total respiratory arrest within minutes, along with total motor paralysis, while you remain fully conscious, for up to 24 hours, which means you die within minutes unless you can be gotten to a ventilator. And you won’t even feel the bite.
That person must be fucking HUGE!
I love those little tentacled funsters!
SCHLURP
What sort of dumbass picks up an octopus? It’s almost undoubtedly bad for the octopus and who knows what it might do to the human in this photo? I suspect some octopuses are smarter than some humans.
