Looks like every comic book store in the Seattle area is participating this year, so head to your fave local shop (search by zip code here) and claim. Not much in the way of alternative books and comix in this year’s selection, other than the above-linked Love & Rockets published by the folks just south at Fantagraphics, but it’s a little something to grab while your kids geek out over Shonen Jump and Owly (and while you geek out over the Transformers/GI Joe book).

Think about buying a book or two, as well, because Free Comic Book Day isn’t actually freeโ€”not for shop owners, anyway. They pay “between 14 and 50 cents” per promotional book, so that the little guys at Marvel can survive the economic downturn of a $35 million opening night for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It’s nice that the local comic shop can lend a helping hand.
