Jesus Fucking Christ. Brett Favre has un-retired (again) and will be a Minnesota Viking by day’s end.
From the Washington Post:
Favre reportedly is scheduled to join the club and undergo a physical and, barring any
unexpected snags, is to sign a one-year deal worth approximately $12 million.
Favre declined an invitation by the Vikings to report to training camp with them last month, saying at the time he wasn’t certain that he could play a full season at this point in his career at a level of performance he considered satisfactory. Vikings Coach Brad Childress said at the time that the club would not renew its pursuit of Favre.
It would mark the second straight offseason that Favre has come out of retirement to resume his playing career.
Watching Green Bay fans throw batteries and boo #4 from the stands at Lambeau Field will be glorious.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with this guy?
Packers fans won’t throw batteries. It’s Green Bay…not New York or Philadelphia.
I do worry though about the impact of agitating an entire state fueled by beer, cheese and bratwurst…
Spontaneous nuclear fission is what I predict.
It’s Eagles fans that throw batteries.
I’m imagining the legendary satirical end you often see in comedies where the aged football player shatters several large bones in one last run on the field, losing the game and losing his ability to walk.
Mmm, glorious.
I don’t get the irritation … if the old man wants to play football, then sign him up. He’s great.
anything to piss off packers fans!
@4, like Bo Jackson or Joe Thiesman?
That’s probably what will have to happen to get this guy off the field. That, or his death on the field under a pile of linemen.
The real question: if Favre unretires, does that mean that Madden must also?
Hey, if somebody was willing to pay me $12 million, I’d play too – and I’m a hell of a lot older than Favre.
To hell with him and may the vikings lie in a pile of their own filthy shit.
They should throw darts.
Don’t follow sports, so don’t care if he works, retires, or up and dies this afternoon, but what the hell is up with pronouncing FaVRe FaRVe? It irks me every time I hear/see it in print. Is this guy so threatened by exotic sounding names (like his OWN) that we must all pronounce a V like an R?
End of rant.
I have a feeling he will continue to play until he is literally physically unable to.
Packers fans should throw pairs of Wrangler jeans stuffed with doorknobs.
Remember when Brett Favre faked a sack so Michael Strahan could set a record? The guy’s a cheater.
This is such a shitty decision by Vikes management… He can’t win a superbowl with that team. So, where does that leave the Vikings after that? Rebuilding, which is where they should START, now. They don’t need a diva who can’t win to ruin the team for a year. Why blow 12 million if you’re not going to win, and end up back at square 1 a year later???
AAARRRRRGHHHHHHHHHH!
He’s like the Michael Jordan of football, without the respect or talent.
Brett Favre seems to now be senile as he is forgetting he will be playing half of his games in a domed stadium where he has historically proved to be terrible.
I couldn’t care less if he plays. I’m just sick of hearing about him and as a Minnesotan I’m going to be hearing about him constantly. Also seems stupid to drop that much money on an old washed up narcissistic idiot like him.
Only player I’d rather see get booed off the field more is Vick.
Dude needs a hobby.
The only impact this will have on me is if someone in my fantasy league is stupid enough to pick him.
as a minnesotan, i hate brett favre and every minnesotan should. not only is he a smug bastard with a faux-aw-shucks persona, but he’s a huge part of the vikings/packers rivalry. i liked having the seahawks and the vikings to root for because then there was a better chance of one of them winning every now and then but now i’m stuck with just the seahawks.
There is nothing to do in WI but drink beer, watch/play football, eat cheese and have sex. Clearly Favre is not getting enough ass. If he were, he’d go away.
Actually, being a life-long MN Vikings fan, out of regional solidarity, not because I have liked any of the coaches ideas/plans/decisions to take a knee, etc, I still love Favre. I do wish he’d go away, but come on, what young player these days, no matter how much money they make, would keep throwing a football with a broken finger? I truly appreciate his dedication.
He keeps coming back like Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th movies
6 – packers fans aren’t pissed off. ViQueens fans should be tho.
For the record, GB fans only throw the following:
1. Deep fried cheese curds
2. Hats and mittens (not gloves)
3. 4 dollar bills
Batteries? Shame, so wasteful.
@ 23 – I’m wisconsin, born and raised…life long packer fan…and Favre is now dead to me. I will no longer hold him in any regard and I will curse his name in polite company. Itโs one thing to want to continue to play because you love the game (partially true). Itโs another to continue to play out of revenge against a franchise (or GM) that made you a hero (biggest motivation). Fuck him (yes, it goes that dead)
25 – got your “we will never forget you BRENT” tshirt yet? I plan on wearing that baby out this season.
I think it was due to things like this that I lost interest in pro sports. Rivalries are fun. Loyalty to a team is noble. Things like this show pro sports for what it is, not entertainment, but business. I lost interest in watching businesses compete with each other.
@11: I have long maintained that he spelled his name wrong on his initial NFL job application and was too embarrassed to ever admit it.
Pro sports is entertainment and business, that’s why it’s called show business. Oddly enough, Favres return has nothing to do with business. He’s very bitter about his exit from Green Bay and that’s the main reason he wanted to play in Minnesota or Chicago, so he could try and get revenge in the same division playing his old team (who now have a better QB then Brett) twice a year. Can we just end the preseason and start the real thing this Sunday?
This “come here go away” shit Favre keeps pulling is getting really old. I think the dude just can’t handle not being in the national news. Us Minnesotans and Vikings fans don’t want him. He’s not going to do shit for us. Look what a disappointment he was for the Jets! The only satisfaction I will get out of this is seeing my Wisconsin friends foam at the mouth… but still, not worth it.
Favre is awesome, and I hope he kicks ass for the Vikings.
I’m gonna let Big Daddy Drew speak for me, as I couldn’t put this any better myself:

I really don’t get what all the fussing and fuming is about. Yeah, he’s waffled back and forth, but it’s not like he’s getting in anyone’s face about it. So he wants to play? Big deal. We all change our mind about things. He was a really good QB for a long time, and then things changed. Whoop-de-friggin-do! So some other teams decide to sign him for a year or whatever. It’s their business to find someone to play. If they pick wrong, they live with the consequences. So much ranting and raving all over whether some guy wants a job. If other players are so much better, then let them prove it.. and same for him. Can we just play some football? Sheesh.
