Muammar Gaddafi is a survivor. His youngest son, Saif al-Arab Gaddafi… apparently, not so much:

A Nato air strike in Tripoli has killed the youngest son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, a Libyan government spokesman has said.

Saif al-Arab Gaddafi was killed along with three of Muammar Gaddafi’s grandsons, according to reports.

The Libyan leader was in the building at the time of the strike, but was unharmed.

Libyan government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said: “This was a direct operation to assassinate the leader of this country.”

Yes, it probably was.

  1. If he gave two shits about his children, or any other human being, he’d accept his billion dollar retirement package and toddle off to the south of France.

Which Saif would have done himself except he was hanging around hoping to become butcher in chief himself. It’s good that he’s dead, even if they missed Khadafi this try. If you don’t kill them off they come back some day. Look at what Baby Doc is up to in Hati.

  2. A strongman that fears his child might usurp him does. Not saying that was necessarily the case here, but that case definitely has happened in the past.

  3. Why don’t we just offer to mediate talks, and then Obama can kill him in a conference room with a karate chop?

I’m pretty sure that Obama can learn some karate, and it would really improve his reelection chances with independents who are worried about his nuanced approach to foreign policy.

  4. Pull your head out of your ass, Canuck.

This man is a vile monster. By bankrolling terrorist activity (remember Lockerbie?) and the current insurrection in Libya, he is directly responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.

You can question the wisdom of assassination, but to complain about surviving one’s child?

    Seriously, think before you type.

  5. We sit here, right now, on this earth, as opposed to in the ground or never-to-be-conceived, because many people, many of them related to us, engaged in brutality. Brutality works.

It is easy enough to sit here and say “live and let live.” But I imagine the untold millions of American Indians, living in North and South America before the arrival of westerners wouldn’t feel so warm to that sentiment, laying forever forgotten and discarded. History is filled with stories of such brutal subjugation and genocide; those of us alive today are most likely the victors responsible for many of these genocides. We derive advantage from brutality to this very day.

But it’s the people who own land, property, and have access to women who tend to make laws and set the moral attitude; the attitude of the haves will always be “live and let live” that they might maintain the status quo. It is much harder to feel the same when one is a have-not.

I’m not actually arguing in favor of brutality, but I am arguing against hypocrisy. It is very easy to forget all of this, drinking franchise coffee and possessing the wealth to own a computer.

  6. ” the people who own land, property, and have access to women who tend to make laws and set the moral attitude”

So I’m guessing you don’t have access to women?

  7. I think someone must misunderremembered the song. It’s halls of Montezuma and shores of Triopoli, not shores of Montezuma and halls of Tripoli.

  8. So this is like Operation Valkyrie Number 4…5?

I think several of his kids have been the only victims since they have tried to kill Gaddafi by bombing his palaces.

This is clearly a cheap attempt by Obama to score a victory without trying.

He failed to follow the Powell Doctrine and we’re all paying the price for his ineptitude.

  9. Violence does NOT beget violence. It makes everyone in the Obama Rainbow and the Republican pot of gold happy. Why, everyone knows that it makes people happy. (Especially those selling the weapons).

We have a one-party political system of by and for the rich. The wealthy don’t care who wins, either party is in their pocket.

    now now….
    cut the canadian some slack
not being from a real country with a real military or foreign policy she and her country can afford to take the “mommy” point of view.
life is easy when you live in never-neverland.

  11. Yea, Khadaffi and his family have been killing and torturing his own people for some 20 years, the revolution/rebellion whatever is the price for a people to rid themselves of this tyrant. People all kinds of people DIE in civil war, To push the dictator / nutjob over the line or to try to kill him is a public service. No I’m not a warmonger, life long liberal Dem, Sometimes evil for the sake of good is required …

  12. @Bless the beasts and the children……I am Canadian and Proud of it!! I’d rather be a part of a country that believes in Peace and defers from participating in assassination and warmongering! Yes, History has shown us that War and violence can work, but that doesn’t make it right or the best choice. There are better ways of going about things than Bullying people into getting what you want! Society in a whole need to learn from our history to change our future not use our history as a textbook! Peace will only be achieved by changing how we think otherwise I fear that we will be doomed to have history repeat itself time and again!!

Then why do you have troops in Afghanistan?
