TONIGHT
Policy wonk Micah Zenko (and Council on Foreign Relations fellow) will try to assess whether limited military interventions work. He’s talking about the sort of “little” wars that give middle-aged white men like Bill Clinton, Michael Ignatieff, and Bernard Kouchner death-boners. This is why he says you should care: the U.S. has been involved in 36 of themโincluding shit like the Black Hawk Down debacle in Somaliaโin just the past twenty years. Remind me again how ours is not an imperialist state? (Town Hall Seattle, doors open at 7:30 p.m., tickets $5 here or at the door)
THURSDAY
Federal, state, and local bureaucrats are holding a public hearing on the Billionaires’ Tunnel Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement. They are even taking public comments on the project’s controversial EIS. Endorse the EIS and there are rumors circulating that Richard Conlin might preemptively sign for your tab at the bar later. (Plymouth Church, 1217 Sixth Ave, 5 to 7 p.m., free)
FRIDAY
Peace Corps Director Aaron Williams will be keynoting a World Affairs Council awards ceremony and celebrating his organization’s fight against a realist, Hobbesian dystopiaโfilled with cannibalism, incest, and Ayn Rand disciples. “Nasty, brutish, and short” lives are no fun. So give these guys your support for giving a damn about the next guy. (Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Avenue, 7 to 9 p.m., tickets here )
SATURDAY
Mudede bait: the Amanda Knox Defense Fund is hosting a benefit dinner at an outpost of privilege on Vashon Island. Are they serving spaghetti by coincidence or as some sort of coded message directed at Foxy Knoxy’s Italian jailers? (Vashon Sportsmen’s Club, 19720 Singer Rd. SW, 6 to 10 p.m., $20 individual/$40 family)
SUNDAY
The Seahawks better lose to the Saints. I am getting tired of this inconsistent team costing me a pick each week. (1:15 p.m., they should pay to you to watch this bullshit)

Re: Tonight – we’re an anarch-syndicalist corporatist monarchy, actually.
Love the Thursday event. I prefer Kahlua, Richard.
(anarcho – damn, blew the MPFC ref)
Plymouth Church has a bar?
@ Fnarf — I fail to see how that was implied.
yeah, plymouth church has a bar. it’s called camp in-sid-sen. church members were growing a bit concerned about the role/effects of alcohol at church camp (adults/church youth) getting fucked up. no, not together. so they took it to a vote. alcohol won. yay! i’m goin’ to camp!
Well, Jesus did turn water into wine …
There’s no need to convince Mr. Luby that we’re not an imperialist state. We ARE an imperialist state. No question about it.
And now, off to join the Free State Project! And change the world!
@ treacle — Oh yes, for certain. Good luck convincing most Americans of that.
@ Fox — Nice, you want to come to New Hampshire, too? Haha. But actually, you’d be surprised to know that Seattle has a wonderful and lively little market anarchist community, which complements the left anarchists in Tacoma nicely. There’s more market anarchists here than any place I’ve ever lived before.
#9: Bless you for showing awareness of Michael Ignatieff. Is Ignatieff’s view about “little wars” why Dan Savage (“Yes, we should go to war with Iraq”) won’t acknowledge or post a link to Ignatieff’s “It Gets Better Project?”
