In honor of this year’s round of new alarming sexually transmitted infection stats…

Hmm… This ad clearly promotes the best sorts of sodomy—anal & oral—as well as group sex and anonymous or nearly-anonymous sex. (Do the first two balloons even know the third balloon’s name?) From the positioning of the heads during the 69 segment, I’d say that these balloons are either performing synchronized analingus or headed in that direction. And I don’t see any little balloon rings on any little balloon fingers—there are no fingers at all—so we can add the promotion of premarital sex to this advert’s long list of sins. Most troubling of all? Since these balloons are of indeterminate gender heterosexual viewers will “read” these balloons as straight and this ad could convince straight viewers to reject heterosexual standards of monogamy and practice “open,” non-exclusive relationships.

With balloons.

This ad is all over YouTube, where it could be seen by impressionable children—think of the children!—but only children web-savvy enough to click the little “verify your age” button. So all of them. Quick! To the Batshitmobile, Michael!

Thanks to Slog tipper Billy.

  1. Wow… funny commercial. Great entertainment.

I clicked through to the TownHall website and read several of the comments in the discussion thread. Of course, I am a bit nauseated now after reading there, but I think that TH provides a nice view into the descent into madness known as conservatism.

While there were some progressive-leaning comments there speaking in favor of SSM and against Biblical literalism, most of the comments were made up of the same, tired arguments that spew from the mouths of the professional homo-haters. The propaganda has been working, and the anti-gays are fired up with hatred.

Most of the folks who read and post at TH must be the foil-hat wearing type, because the comments are full of fears of the consequences of legalizing SSM.

I didn’t know that legalizing SSM would trump the religious freedom of the homo-haters. Apparently it will make being anti-gay illegal. You know, those anti-racist laws worked so well, once racism was made illegal. Now that every skinhead and Klansman is sitting behind bars, racism has been elimiated, right?

What about all of those churches that were closed and their pastors arrested because they refused to perform marriage ceremonies for interracial couples and non-Christians. When those Hindus sued the First Baptist Church for denying them a Christian wedding ceremony and shut it down, you knew that there would be trouble.

Sheesh! You’d think that the world was about to end! To hear the wingnuts talk, we’re only a few days away from a total communist takeover of the USA! Gays and lesbians are trying to destroy marriage! Those evil homos!! Where will it stop?

Why are “conservatives” so scared of everything?

  2. I think a pink balloon is female and a blue balloon is male. So the yellow balloon (which butt fucks the blue balloon) must be gay. CALLING GAY MEN YELLOW!!! Boycott Durex!

  3. Loved it. Very funny.

Loved how the TownHall acknowledged Dan as married.

I think the definition of monogamy needs to evolve. Perhaps, the prefix mono should reflect a couples united decision on their sexual habits.

  4. Actually I would call the last balloon more of a brown/orange, which is the color you get when you combine pink and blue I believe.

So I prefer to think of it as a transgendered balloon, thank you very much.

  5. Aren’t these blown up condoms, rather than balloons? They are thinner than balloons and the blow-up ends look suspiciously larger than balloon ends. It would make more sense for a condom commercial to star condoms than balloons.

  6. Loved this line from the TownHall comments section:

“Does that mean I think the New Testiment condones or tollerates the Romanesque antics of Dan Savage?”
