Hey everybody! Glenn Beck is upset about the federal deficit! After all, we all now owe 12 percent more than we did under other, whiter, more Republicaner presidents. And he thinks you should do something about it. But he can’t actually tell you what to do without going to jail, so instead he’s going to use the ancient art of insinuation to suggest what you should do:

I am not advocating people don’t pay their income taxes. But what if — for argument’s sake — a million people intentionally didn’t pay their taxes?…let’s just say a million people don’t pay — not because they’re cheats, but because they believe the principles upon which we are founded have been violated. Just put aside the fact that America’s 2.3 million federal, state and local prisoners are already dealing with prisons that are packed 36 percent beyond their rated capacity; in other words, overcrowded.

There is video here:

It is absolutely clear, after listening to Beck explain it, that the only rational thing any red-blooded, patriotic American can do in this current economic environment is to stop paying their taxes to the United States Government. For America. Or something.

  1. What if a million people didn’t pay their taxes?

Well then a million people would wind up with a lien on their ass for the amount owed plus penalties and interests.

I guess all that extra money would help with the deficit…

  2. Since the majority of us pay our income taxes through employer withholding, as required by law, this isn’t really going to work, Becks.

  3. I’m not advocating the prosecution and incarceration of all Glenn Beck followers. But what if — for argument’s sake — a large portion of them intentionally committed criminal offenses under federal and state statutes?

  4. @ 3 & 7,

You could adjust your withholding on the W-4 that you file with your employer to some ridiculous number so that you had next to nothing withheld from your paycheck for federal taxes and the full amount due at filing.

  5. Groan. That man will say ANYTHING just to see if it sticks, and if it doesn’t then he’ll go ahead and say the opposite to see if it works better. He’s the biggest bonehead on tv.

  6. Until Bush II seized power, I had a dim view of tax cheats.

Now–with trillions of our dollars going to fund bankrupt billionaires and endless wars, and thoroughly corrupt and incompetent Congressional representation bought and paid for by those same war and financial interests–an old-fashioned tax revolt is the only remaining option, even if it is done for the opposite reasons of the white-wing fringe.

  7. @ 9,

    He’s like the anti-Howard Beale.

Instead of creating controversy by exposing the lies of the corporate and political power structure, Beck creates and disseminates Republican Party propaganda to people who want to be lied to.

  8. @8:

Yeah technically one could do that, but of course by this time of year, most people have already paid the majority of their federal tax obligation, so again, it wouldn’t have that big of an impact.

Besides, it just means that, at best those folks will get zip back in the form of a refund, which will probably piss them off no end as well, although personally I think people who get small refunds or owe small amounts when filing are much better off than those who pay in more than they need to, but get a big refund – why should the government get to collect interest on your $$ when you could be spending or saving it and collecting the interest income yourself?

But, I hope Beck’s listeners take his advice. I’d just love to see all the lawsuits that will come his way after those gullible rubes find their wages garnisheed by the IRS for non-payment of taxes. Kind of hard to stop paying THEN, unless they’re willing to quit their jobs – and even then, the IRS might still be able to garnishee their unemployment checks as well, so…

  9. Right, @12. But, I suppose it’s very convenient for you to leave out the fact that those people paid their back taxes IMMEDIATELY after being informed by the IRS that they owed them.

Nice try though, we’ll send you the home version of the game.

  10. I kind of like the idea of a million of Glenn Beck’s listeners (presuming that idiot has that large an audience) committing a felony. Felons can’t vote in many jurisdictions. It’s like the No More Idiots Voting Initiative!

  11. Now i’m suggesting anyone do it or anything. But how about complaining to the FCC by the millions about FUX News promoting violations of the law. That’s got ot count for a big fine as much as Janet Jackson’s tit.

  12. Glenn, darling, please go forward with that. Keep talking about it on your national program. You will soon know the joy of having the IRS on your case, and I couldn’t think of anyone more suited for that.

You think you’ve been suicidal before, Glenn? Just wait……

  13. I am not advocating people don’t tithe their income to their church. But what if — for argument’s sake — a million people intentionally stopped tithing money to their churches?

  14. Did anyone else notice that dreamy look Beck was giving to Craig T. Nelson? I think he wanted to kiss him. Or maybe chug some of Coach’s cock.

  15. If a million people stopped paying for the services provided by the government and continued to use them… why, that sounds like what happens in SOCIALISM.

  16. The guy accused of killing Dr. Tiller didn’t believe in paying taxes either.

    Is Glenn Beck a terrorist?

  17. That would make the deficit so much worse as a million more Federal inmates entered prisons after being convicted of tax evasion.

  18. I seriously doubt that less then 0.3 percent of the US population will have much impact on the federal tax roles anyway.

Furthermore, considering these people would even consider doing something this so-called “Glenn Beck” person suggests in the first place, I’ll wager that only 0.3 percent of that 0.3 percent would be able to even figure out how to do it.

  19. I don’t see what the big deal is, it’s a protest, we vote with our fucking dollars. If we aren’t allowed to vote with our dollars that’s just slavery. What if it was more than just a million? What if this notion that we need to pay giant amounts of money to a government 3000 miles away for them to give it to 3rd and 1st world countries on our behalf. We have enough problems in Seattle than to worry about whatever the fuck is happening in the middle east, buying up nukes for Israel or whatever.

I’ve always been too scared to do it, but I figure if I knew when I’d be leaving the country I don’t see why not, no need for them to suck up even more of my income just because they won’t tax those billionaires more than 36%. The IRS has motherfucking machine guns, you don’t fuck with the IRS.

  20. We must not forget that we became a country on the premise that enough of the colonist (not a majority) were tired of paying taxes to an entity that they believed did not represent them. In view of the present climate, one must now admit, Democrat or Republican, etc., that lines are being drawn and, although slowly, something is brewing in the country. I’m afraid that sometime soon (not sure how long) things may get ugly. I love my country, and I would hate to see it go through this, but what I know about world history, I cannot expect a good outcome based on what I see everyday in the media, and on the street. If a million tax-paying citizens do not pay their taxes, it would basically signal the end of the current government. The government does not have the resources to grab them all and once others see that those million are are not being aprehended, then more will simply not pay. Lenders would stop lending to the US and it would be all over. Not to mention that in order to catch those million citizens, many civil rights will be broken of innocent citizens on both sides, in the name of preserving the Union. See, ugly, both sides.
