“Beck University is a unique academic experience bringing together experts in the fields of religion, American history and economics,” says the announcement on the Beck Web site. “Through captivating lectures and interactive online discussions, these experts will explore the concepts of Faith, Hope and Charity and show you how they influence America’s past, her present and most importantly her future.
The first courses are Faith 101, Hope 101, and Charity 101. You can read professor bios here, and here is the video launching the university, in which Beck promises you’ll learn more than you’ve ever learned:

So they can finally discover that religion has been blocking human progress, rights and scientific discovery from the get go?…
Whether it was insisting that the world was the center of the universe and flat, to the belief that women shouldn’t vote because they were biblically defined as subservient to men- maybe the Beck University will finally learn a little something about the ignorant religious monkey on the backs of men…

Online “universities” that leave you no more educated than when you started are nothing new. What’s remarkable about this venture is that it may hold the distinction of being the first university of its kind to actually produce graduates who know less than when they started.
I bet all the books are picture books. And very small words; nothing with more than 5 letters.

Don’t know if glenn beckwatch covered it or not, but one of last week’s Daily Show episodes had this great piece and footage of him (Beck, natch) talking about soccer and how Americans who are getting caught up in world cup action are predisposed to be socialists, or maybe homosexuals. It was breathtakinglyfuckingwonderfulandawesome. Maybe I’ll see if I can find a link here…

(actually it’s Stewart & John Hodgman that draw the parallels between soccer & nazism. Still is well worthwhile. Beck’s money quote = “The soccer thing — I hate it so much, probably because the rest of the world likes it so much…” and then the obligatory “cram it down our throats” line.)
Its times like these I wonder how, HOW, america has not created more terrorists. Like, you are telling me NOBODY has thought that Glenn Beck is too dangerous to live? Nobody has tried to off the man? His views are just as polarizing as others that have been killed.
