i hope he dies. what a barbaric “sport.”
Bullfighting is pointless and cruel. I wish the bulls won every time.
Oh lord, he come the cultural imperialists telling all other cultures how to live.
I hope like dog eating Koreans they tell outsiders to fuck off.
i feel like getting a big, juicy cheeseburger now. i figure julio aparicio paid for it; i may as well eat it. yum!
and “onion,” we’re all gonna die. what’s your point?
Gillian,
I saw that photo at breakfast yesterday on pg. 2 of the Seattle Times. Wasn’t pleasant to view. I wonder how the fellow’s doing? I gave the newspaper to a friend & neighbor and warned her about the picture. I wonder if the ST photo editor caught any hell?
Uh, this happened DAYS ago. Good to know the fine folks at SLOG are up-to-date on what’s happening on the internets.
“Don’t mess with the bull, young man. You’ll get the horns.”
Gillian,
Speaking of graphic accidents, glad there’s no photo of this dandy:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/lo…
“Accidental discharge”? Ya think? Clearly, a Darwin award nominee.
While I wish him a speedy recovery, bull fighting is a disgusting sport. There’s nothing heroic or “manly” about it. I went to one once in Cancun. The bull has been stabbed several times by the time the matador steps into the ring. It is half dead, it is whimpering and bleeding all over the place.
Now the running of the bulls, that’s a real man’s sport!
Uh, no thanks. I’ll pass.
Bull FTW
Bad karma wishing others harm. But I have to admit that I have little sympathy for such people.
This sounds a little too close to a snuff photo for me, thanks.
Olรฉ!
Don’t feel too badly for this clumsy guy. He’s in the process of killing the bull, slowly and painfully. Notice the killing sword in his hand. Notice that he walks out of the ring after he is gored. He got off easy. Ernest Hemingway would sneer.
@12 “Bad karma wishing others harm.”
Hahahahahahahaha obviously the bull remains unharmed.
This is exactly what sells the “sport”. In the back of our minds, we know that something like this is possible. If there was no danger to the matador, then there would be no thrill in watching.
Oh, and if you read the article, the matador survived (after a couple of surgeries). The bull was killed.
Boy, that is exactly where you don’t want to get hooked by a bull. I mean, obviously you don’t want to get hooked anywhere, but having the horn basically go through the loop of your jawbone and getting tossed around by it…
*shudder*
@17 “Oh, and if you read the article, the matador survived (after a couple of surgeries). The bull was killed.”
And this is why the sport is for pussies, if the bull wins, it should be allowed to survive.
Yay for the bull! I have zero sympathy for the matador; he got what he deserved. The bull had no choice whereas the man chose to torture and humiliate another living creature. I hope that poor animal is in a place of peace now.
I have no love for the spanish (still holding a grudge for Cuauhtemoc), however, these “bullfighting is horrible” comments never seem to include american rodeos in the horribleness. Sure, the bulls aren’t killed in american style, but are they there by choice? Have the bulls signed disclosures? Leave the bullfighting people alone, at least they stopped torturing, while here in the U.S. it is still fair game. And that is truly horrible.
@21 “at least they stopped torturing, while here in the U.S. it is still fair game”
How do you mean? Regardless, the comments don’t include rodeos b/c the post was about bull fighting not rodeos. If Gillian had posted something about a rodeo clown being gored then all the comments would have been about rodeos instead of bullfights.
