According to the police, Randall Smith, was spraying herbicide at the edge of his driveway when he heard his neighbor, Michael Carreiro, coming down the road in a truck. Carreiro got out of his truck and apparently threatened to harm Smith, who allegedly put down his herbicide spray and pulled out a pistol from his holster. Twelve shots were fired. Carreiro fell to the ground.

The police also say that Smith allegedly fired two more times into Carreiro’s back after he had already gone still, laying on the ground “with his arms tucked underneath him.” This incident happened in Florida, a state that has a very famous stand-your-ground law.
